Mysterious Changes to Security Settings in Internet Options
I'm using SP2 Home Edition. Something or someone is putting a check in an
option box that is normally unchecked. It happens about once a week or so.
The item being changed is found in Internet Options, Advanced Tab, and under
the Security heading. It is the item "Allow Active Content to Run In Files
on My Computer."
I use SpyBot and I've made the connection that it picks this occur...

How to update Antivirus and Windows update
I have around 100 users with laptops and when these guys go on travel
they are not able to update Windows updates and antivirus
updates ...how can I make sure while they are on travel they are are
secure and have the appropriate updates.

spyware
i cannot get rid of a system alert that opens a website for
"spylocked.com".My mcafee brought up a virus alert so i removed the program
"spylocked4.1" from my system.It still has an icon on my taskbar that
constantly reminds me it is there which is affecting all other tasks i am
trying to carry out.I checked scheduled tasks but it is not there.

Customised foloder properties problem
Hello, When changing folder properties on my music/picture folders to select
what type of folder they are. i.e documents, music artist, music album,
pictures, photo album etc.. on the customise property settings, we are
finding that after we set them and add our own picture to go on that folder

Is there a reg key for XP Pro expiry length?
I'm wondering if there's a registry key that indicates how long
between password expiry dates, example 90 days.
I'm thinking about XP Pro in a business environment.

Windows Domains in a home Network? How can I set it Up? Or Should
I would like to learn how to set up windows domains for my home network. We
currently have 4 desktops and 2 laptops (WinXP x3, Win98 x2, & 1 I toy

Retrieving Encrypted Directories
I recently had a major system crash, requiring a new operating system
install. I was able to save many of my data files, though I lost all windows
system files and MS applications.
I had encrypted a personal directory, and I see that it managed to be saved,
as it is in the 'USERDATA' file that was created. However it will not allow
me to open it, move it, delete it, or view its content...

Restricting logins on a XP computer
I want to restrict logging in to our accounting computers to only those who
are in the Accounting department. These computers will be part of our
Windows 2003 domain. So far, on the local XP computers, I have tried to
button down so that only admin and the accounting group has access to the C
drive. But other accounts are still able to log into the computer. How can
I stop this?

Running an EXE File from a network drive without security warning

Netbt Problem Event ID:4321
I am wondering if anyone can provide me with a solution or a possible fix.
Every ten minutes, I seem to be getting netbt errors from my secondary domain
controller. Event ID 4321
The name "COM :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with
IP address 10.0.10.2. The machine with the IP address 10.0.10.1 did not allow
the name to be claimed by this machine.

Book on group/local policies
Hello,
Can anyone recommend a good book on how to's? I have about 50 workstations
that are tied to a Novell network. The Novell network does not have any
policies.
So i want to create local user policies that I can copy to all machines
(somehow). So my users have limited access to change things on their PC's.

Security Log Category and Type Codes (using dumpel)
Hello,
Does anyone know of or have a cross reference for the Security log
numeric Category and Type field codes that are shown in the output of
dumpel? When viewing the Security log with Event Viewer, the
Category
and Type fields are displayed with text. dumpel just shows a numeric
value. An example difference would be, Type field shows "8" in
dumpel
and "Security Audit" in Event View...

I too, have had the rouge antivirus' ContraVirusPro latch on to my computer.
I looked at Peter's answer and followed a link to a virus remover who wanted
to charge me 29.95 US to remove it. My suspicion is that Peter's link is
part of the game. He has no profile. Is there any free virus remover
available to get rid of this terrible rogue...

.NET Optimization RunTime Question
I had just updated my WinXP Pro SP2 with the new version May 2007
AutoPatcher software. On reboot, ZoneAlarm came up with an alert that the

i keep getting a pop up in the center of my monitor every ten seconds or so
saying "attention...security flag off ".1 ...what is a security flag...2

BSOD Bad_pool_header when deleting user account
I am cleaning up my home XP SP2 computer and deleting some of my kids
accounts from it. I deleted one ok, but whenever I delete this one particular
account I get the BSOD and bad_pool_header error. I get it as soon as I press
the Delete Account button (after I've told it to delete the files). What can
be causing this and how can I fix this?...

Can anyone advise me on how to remove SpyLocked?
I have tried SpyHunter, and it has removed some of the files, but I am still
getting warning messages, so the virus is still there. I also has Spybot but
this does not recognize it.

How do I secure "remote desktop"?
Hi All,
I have a customer with a vendor that wants to have me do a port
forward on my router so he can do a "remote desktop" connection
to a Windows XP, SP2 computer. The verndor's IP floats.
No problem with the port forward. But..
I got to thinking, this leaves that workstation open for port probes

Deploy Local Group Policy
We have 250 mobile users that do not connect to a domain yet. Our
infrastructure is migrating to AD, but we still are a year or so away. In
