Fast filesystem
Hi,
On the project that I am working on we need to store and retrieve files as
fast as possible. The size of the file are mostly large, 1 Mb to a 100Mb.
To get some decent performance we will store our data onto a RAID0 disk. We
do not really care what will happen to the data in case of a crash.
I am trying to find a way to get even more performance out of system. I am
more specifically i...

Long Login Times
We are running XP SP2 on mostly newer Dell hardware. Over the past month we
have been getting complaints about some machines taking 9 to 14 mins to boot
up and login on the network.
XP boot times are normal but once the user logs into the network (AD 2003
with local DC) is where the system seems to almost stop.
My question???
Are there any tools out there that could help us log this ...

2.3 GB page file?
Have a XP machine with 1GB RAM and a 2.3 GB page file running horribly slow.
Have 2 other XP machines, with page files in the 400 to 600 MB range, so I
feel confident I have found a problem, if not the cause, then at least an
effect. Machine in question is son's desktop, he does online gaming (WoW and
COD4) Do not have SP3 on this machine yet, but all other patches have been
applied. ...

The "searchindexer" function appears to be crashing my desktop running XP Pro
SP3. I open up task manager and can keep the computer running as long as I
cancel this process every time it starts, but if I leave this process running
my computer will hang and the processor stop running.
I have gone into msconfig and eliminated as many startup programs as
possible and still this persists...

Uninstalling Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP Pro SP2
I want to uninstall Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP (recent Windows

I want to be sure
(1) I will still have the Search Companion, and that
(2) no scraps of WS4 are left lying about. Also want to make sure that
(3) WS4 Indexing is no longer running in Services.
(4) (what is the normal setting for Indexing in Services (for ...

However recently for no reason I can determine applications are slow to open

There seems to be a problem many are having with the most recent critical

Automatic Update failed to install these updates on my PC over a dozen times.
After finally installing now I receive the error message that Microsoft.NET

started to slow down after 3-4 hrs of use after each bootup. I have

temporary files from Internet Explorer. After a few hrs the system
slows down substantially thus making it difficult to...

Folders w/photos are painfully slow
A few months back I replaced my 1 gb CPU with a new Intel Core 2 CPU machine.
Everything is o much faster now with one exception. When I click on a photo
directory to get a detail listing of the 200 or so photos, it might take
10-15 seconds to show the detail list. On my old machine that would have
taken only a second or two. If I then change the view from Detail to
Thumbnail, it might t...

lsass.exe takes a lot of CPU
On unpredictable moments lsass.exe uses a lot of CPU on my Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have all updates installed and a virus scan did not reveal any viruses or
malware. The process can't be killed, because this shuts the computer down
(as the sasser worm does).
Inspecting the threads the program runs, it looks like it is always the same
action that makes lsass.exe skyrocket in cpu usage: a t...
