login after installing .net framework 1.1
I had to reformat my wife's computer using XP Pro. To run one of her
programs .net framework 1.1 had to be installed.
After getting .net framework installed, there is an extra screen when XP
boots and she has to click on the user icon to continue to boot. How do I
get rid of that extra screen and boot directly into XP??
Thanks very much

System Restore
I'm unable to use system restore. The restore points are made automatically
but
when I try to restore I get the message "the computer was unable to restore
to this date." I have tried this over several days but always...no joy.
Sometime in the past, CRS you know, I ran a registry cleaner and removed
some "stuff." Supposedly items that were not needed and were just trash.
Now, I'm...

Enable Alerter?
Many years experience with a Mac, but new to Windows XP, which I am
using on my MacBook running VMWare Fusion 2.0.1
I found my way to Computer Management and as I began exploring there,
I found that under Services that Alerter was by default Disabled.
It notes that Alerter notifies selected users and computers of
administrative alerts and would *seem* to be a useful thing to have
enabled...

PKZIP and Windows XP
Going through some old backed up files, I came across my licensed, legitimate
copy of PKZIP 2.04g, a DOS-based, 16-bit zipping program.
Does anyone know or have any experience with using this ol' chestnut on a
32-bit Windows XP Home (with SP-3) operating system?
I was thinking of using the command prompt box.....
Thanks!

Transferring files to a new computer
My current machine runs WindowsXP. I plan to buy a new one which will
almost certainly come with Vista pre-installed.
I'm aware of MS and other utilities which purport to transfer the files
without problems.
But what is the situation with the numerous programs which require
activation?
On my computer there are numerous such programs from Adobe, Nuance, Acronis,
AVG, Intuit and o...

Getting Rid of Norton
I recently uninstalled Norton Internet Security using the uninstall feature
in Ctrl Panel | Add/Remove Programs.
The program is gone, but left behind are a set of hundreds (thousands??) of
files in nested folders whose names begins with Symantec. There may be more
with other names.
There's something called the "Norton Removal Tool", which I've downloaded
but not run.
