The network connection is appearing as "local area connection 2". When I set

Help for the clueless, please.
Good Morning,
I have to admit to being totally out of my depth and in dire need of
assistance.
I have a small local net, mainly running XP SP3, with one oddment
running Ubuntu.
The Ubuntu is used as a mail server and filestore.
I want to be able to access this filestore remotely. To this end I
purchased an ADSL (wireless) router which has native VPN capability.
Thinking that would give ...

Unauthorized to access computers
I have set up and networked with file and print sharing a hard wired desktop
and wireless laptop. They are both part of the same workgroup. They
recognize each other but whenever I click on the other to access the files or
printer, I am told that I am not authorized to access it.
I am the administrator on both computers and don't have passwords on them.
Why does this happen?...

detected an incoming virus and supposedly stopped it, although it was unable
to quarantine or delete the offending files in the temp folder. I was able
