DPC Routine BSoD
Hi,
I'm running XP currently, and I am NO computer expert :\
Lately, I've been getting a BSoD that says something about:
"A wait operation, attach process, or yield was attempted from a DPC
Routine."
"0x000000B8"
And finally something about "physical memory."
I get them after trying to join a online game on Warcraft III. I can
log onto Battle.net fine but whenever I try to join a ga...

Word viewer 2003 caused file changes - irreversible?
Running Windows XP 2001. Prompted to install Word Viewer 2003 with 2007
update when .docx document wouldn't open - but, unhappy with read-only
format, I saved the file in different format and then uninstalled the
programs.
However, all of my word files have now been converted to
"Wordview.Document.8" files which automatically open (or rather fail to) in
Wordpad. Do I have to install ...

Blank logon when starting Windows XP Home SP3
I have a work station that displays a blank user logon, when starting up.
When I say ok and continue - all is well and the correct user profile is
displayed.
Is there a way to eliminate this blank (no user name) startup logon in the
registry?

I had already reinstalled XP (albeit on the wrong drive) so I do not receive
that partition message option, what can I do to get that message back??? A
crash seems the only way to get it back:-( I really appreciate your help.

installing xp pro with a copied cd
i have vista prem on my computer that i bought recently and would like to
change the os to windows xp pro. i have a copied cd of the full install for
it and a cd
key that hasnt been used at all which i received from school from our it
club. now the question is if i were to install xp with the copied cd and
entered a legit unused cd key would it work? the terms for the cdkey and

Update broken
Windows XP fully updated; IE7.
I can no longer access the Update site:
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us
I have turned off all firewalls, antivirus, malware, etc. and still won't
work. This happened following the last massive updates of a week or so ago.
IE7 will show "Checking if your computer has..." and then freezes. I've
tried the few suggest...

Hi, I am having a major problem with my laptop. When I turned it on it
displayed the following message,
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\STSTEM.
It's saying that I need to restart the windows setup using the original
Setup CD-ROM.
The problem is I don't have the cd to do the restart from. Does anyone know
of anyway that I can get around this, or is there somewhere that I might be
able to ...

Unable to locate component
I don't know what happened, but when I turn on my computer with Windows XP on
it on, it gets as far as displaying the desktop background with none of the
normal other stuff (shortcuts or taskbar) with a message which states:
Explorer.exe - Unable to locate component This application has failed
to start because SHDOCVW,dll was not found. Re-installing the application
may fix this ...

ini file
I have an ini file called UFantacy.ini which will periodically hang up
my computer, Windows XP. Microsoft antispyware will not do anything
with it, I have tried copying this file, renaming it and putting it in a
different folder then deleting the original file, this does not work.
The only way I can see the file is to go to run and type in Ufantasy.ini
and open, it then is opened with word pad....

BSOD Need Help, Tried Everything
While gaming on COD4 or COD5, my computer will suddenly just auto-reboot

Best Keyboard for legally blind?
I have a friend and he presently uses a KB with very large keys, but it has
no keys for Fn or F-keys keys and no Print screen keys.
He ordered a new KB.. (in yellow) for "legally blind or severely sight
handicapped" but its keys are smaller and really not good to see.

TASKLIST.EXe vs TASKMGR
Using TASKLIST from the command line, formating the output as a CSV, and
brining into Excel,shows the memory usage for all processes as say 300B
(vaires os system to syatem, so use this as an example).
using TASKMGR on the same PC can show 1GB or more in the PF Usage bar, or in
Toal Comitted K
I've domne a side by side comparison, and can't find any processes in
TASKMGR which are not...

why UDP Packets to teredo,ipv5.microsoft.com?
there seems to be outgoing UDP packets from my xp pro pc to
teredo,ipv6.microsoft.com every 10 to 20 minutes? every such packet is
followed by one to 66.55.158.81
what function does it serve?
also what is located 224.0.0.22 with remote mac 01-00-5e-00-00-16? I found
in my firewall traffic log a few them as well as ipv6 to 0.0.0.0 (mac

graphics adapter isn't recognized
I recently performed an xp repair install. Afterward, I noticed that my video
card, a Geforce FX 5200, isn't recognized by the system. I tried to
re-install it, but received a message that the drivers on the system weren't
compatible. Knowing that direct x 9.0c needs to be installed for this card to

Shortcuts keep disappearing in folders: start, quick launch ...
As an aside ... this is the type of XP behaviour that has really
gotten me frustrated ever since I moved over to XP last year. It's
ONLY because I have a large drive that I even have to have XP.
Believe me, I'd go back in a heartbeat if it weren't for the FAT32 vs
NTSF issue ... <sigh>

Commandline parameters for Windows search?
I've searched and searched on the net but I can't find anything other
than what seem to be DOS bat-like commands to do a search but they
don't even seem to have anything to do with the Windows gui one.
The biggest problem with the Windows find files feature is that the
saved searches never have worked. I remember this being a problem as
far back as Win98SE, so this time, it's not just an X...

problems with thumbnails and autoarange
Aranging icons as thumnails and thanagain making them to sort as
autoarange by name....everytime i put new pictures(because mostly this
are text and picture folders, archive of pictures and texts, and it's
important for me to see details on pictures) the folders became mixed
i.e. the autorange and thumbnail functions disappeare...What to do ?...

microsoft windows
please help me someone..everytime i go on my windows live mail i start to
chat and a few minutes later it shows in a blue box that there has been a
error something to do with microsoft windows. Also when sometimes i'm
chatting it freezes on me. This only happens in my windows live messenger,
not in yahoo. please help me get this fixed, i can't chat with anyone without
being booted off....

Hard drive icons in Explorer opens in a new window!
When I double click on the C: or D: or any drive(including externals) inside
'My Computer', the drive i double clicked or opened starts in a new window.
But the folder navigations inside the drives open in the same window. If I
click 'back' and come to My Computer again and double click on any drive, one
more My Computer window is left back and another window opens.

Internet explorer freezes on a specific website
Something is strange as explorer works well except if I try to go to 1
specific web page it automatically freezes. I get a "not responding" error
always. Its only this 1 site always. When I try to go there, it freezes

Work Stations Service Stops Automatically
I have windows server 2003 Installed and my Web Application Service is
running on it. But my Workstation service has stopped automatically
which stops me to access the system. I have to restart the service
