New spyware will not sweep.
Webroot Spy Sweeper software appears to be running and GUI indicates it is
sweeping. However it does not actually inspect any items. It ran all night
(10 hours+) and still did not inspect any items. The next day it caused an
error and a hangup on my computer. I have had a similar problem with Webroot

Update Manager
When I start my computer, I get a message telling me that Update Manager
cannot complete installing the updates. It tells me that the updates are on a

Please!
Can anyone to tell me which are the default settings of indexing service
(Windows XP SP3) regarding directories to index/exclude?
I changed these settings (I deleted excluded directories paths) and I can't
remember anymore; I searched on Google but with no results.

mouse- rt side menu not dropping
I have been using a Microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse 3000 without
any problems at all. very pleased, however: a few days ago, some changes
occurred in a couple of areas of my computer. When I click on the right side

Help - Dual Boot Question
I have XP Pro installed on my primary HD. I just added a second HD to my
system and installed Vista Ultma on it. Everything works fine except the
computer boots to Vista instead of XP. I checked my bios and well as the
boot menu and both indicate I should be booting to disk 0 (XP) instead of
disk 1 (Vista).
What I see when the computer boots is a menu with Vista highlighted - if I

Task manager files disappeared and cant opento work program
Hi i once downloaded limewire and somehow a virus attacked my comp but my

Retain drivers during install
I have a desktop that has Windows XP on it. TIt has all the drivers
applicable to the hardware (no splashs). The machine is custom and not sure
where to find the drivers for it. I want to store the drivers on an
external, delete the partitions, install xp and recover the drivers.
any ideas how to retain the drivers and recover them?

Computer Won't Start/Boot.
Hi, I was just doin' my stuff on the computer when suddenly it restarted but

Unwanted image on Microsoft Word

No response when selecting MY COMPUTER
When I click on MY COMPUTER the window displays a flashlight rolling back and
forth searching fo components but never finds anything. I cannot change
folders when trying to open files through MY DOCUMENTS. Computer freezes and
I must use Task Manager to exit....

What are the log file names? Can I navigate to them?
I have a hard drive that was crashing in my laptop. I pulled it out and put
it into an external drive case. I now want to go to its log files and open
them up via what ever program will to see if I can see what was going on....
How can I do that?

Error code 0x80070005 on startup
Greetings,
When I boot up the PC and it brings me to the log in screen, I enter in the
username and password to authenticate. It then brings a "Validation Error"
and gives me a 0x80070005 error code and it won't let me in. What's the
deal? How can I fix this problem?...

My Documents directory settings changed
Hi,
I run Windows XP Pro having 2 users: one admin and one user (restricted).
On the admin side I created a directory C:\MYDOCS for all my personal data.
"My Documents" is there but only in sporadic use.
Suddenly part of the content in original "My Documents" directory is

XP reinstall
1. I have XP media center edition, 2002, SP3
2. A virus destroyed a lot of functions, so I want to install XP Pro
3. I bought XP Pro disc (at vast expense) and tried to install
4. Said it can't install as version on m/c is later than version on disc (SP2)
5. Followed instructions to boot from CD - said it couldn't find a hard

How to diagnist which program\driver causes Blue Screen on Shutdown?

my laptop (IBM ThinkPad T60) causes Blue screen of death on shutdown.
There is some cause indicated, namely STOP: 0x0000000A -
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. The installation is rather fresh, but I have
installed many drivers, system updates and software. The BSOD happens

I do not have WPA on my old wireless router. I never could set up WEP
and still can't with VISTA. The goddamn thing will either not connect or
connect with limited access and cannot connect to the internet.
I have tried 64 bit and 128 it. I've tried 5 or 13 characters and 10 or

XP and ram problem
probably not the right forum to ask but can't find any other.
My motherboard runs one stick of DDR 400 184pin ram ok but goes crazy on two
sticks. Like it wants to" reinstall windows" while trying to boot up.
The M/Bd book does say DDR200 and DDR 266 so I suppose that's why, but why
does one strick of DDR 400 run ok and in either slot as well.?

URGENT: Windows XP does start up

I ran into a strange problem yesterday. I rebooted the laptop in the morning
and it started to boot fine until "applying computer settings" and then it

Language pack in MSOffice 2003?
I have the Proof Languages (muisetup.exe) 2003 installed and also use
MSOffice 2003.
The language bar also shows up in the taskbar either in EN or DE. It works
fine when I want to check German spelling and "Umlaute" in a Windows Live
Mail, but I cannot get it to check anything in MSWord 2003. It says it
cannot find the German language, which is silly, because it works in Windows
