how to re-install beep.sys ?
Windows XP pro SP2.
My system beep stopped working.
In the Event Viewer, at boot-up there is a message saying that the
Beep driver could not load.
There was no beep.sys file in or under my Windows folder.
I went into Device Manager, showed hidden devices, and under
non-plug&play Beep had a yellow exclamation mark.
So I un-installed that driver in Device Manager, thinking it might

MS 504 Gateway Timeout
Windows XP SP3, Explorer 7.x and everything else works very well, except
when I attempt to use the instruction received by an MS Newsgroup to: "Read
and rate the response" hyperlink behind which I can find the answer to a
question? For days now I get the above response?
As pointed out, all other hyperlinks in all pages from Microsoft and others
work well and fast.

MS Lifecam (webcam) vx5000 - save video/photo buttons greyed out
Hi,
Please forgive the crosspost! In my lifecam software the save video/photo
buttons at the bottom of the
window are permanently greyed out. I've tried selecting different resolutions,
but it doesn't seem to help (the "zoom" button works ok at lower resolutions
than the max, which is how I believe its supposed to work). I'm using the
latest version of the LifeCam software (v.2.04...

Laptop only works in Safemode
I can bootup in safemode with no problem. However, when I try to bootup
normally it does not bootup normally. It takes 10 to 15 minutes for it to do
anything. The laptop is like going 5 miles per hour in 70 mph lane. I do not
remember adding anything to the the laptop (hardware or software). My
anti-virus software (symantec's) was removed some how and I can re-load it in

Spontanious system crashes.
Occasionally my computer will, with no warning, reboot itself. The more
intensive the application the more likely it will crash, example;
watching a DVD will rarely if ever trigger a crash, while a majority of
video games, will. Some games will run fine for an hour, 2, or even
more, some will crash within seconds of launching. In a couple of the

Repair or reinstall clean problem
My xp machine was in the middle of an upgrade (I don't know what it was
updating) when my 8 year old turned it off. I tried to reboot & couldin't.
So I got out the original disks from the computer vendor and tried a repair.
After 2 tries I succeeded. I got a verision with Service Pack 1. When I

No Remove Button for IE7 in Add/Remove
With Win XP SP3--no Vista, but AVG Free.
At Add/Remove> IE7, there is NO Remove button and Spt Info there shows Ver
20070813.185237 and opens downlod for IE8 Beta!
Control Panel Programs shows 4 icons: ie explorer.exe (2); (3) (4) versions

No video on boot... black screen of sadness
Have a SONY VAIO model # vgc-ra840g.
So I just installed a ATI HD2600PRO, and a WD 500G 7200rpm HD. I think
I updated the drivers correctly (motherboard, HD, video card). It
restarted correctly the first time. Then I installed Battlefield 2 no
problem... restarted again... then black screen of sadness. My monitor
says no video input after the attempted boot and then goes to power
save.

MS office Icons shortcuts missing from Start menu
Hi Guys,
I need some help.
I recently had an issue with my laptop's hardrive. It had two partitions. My
IT dept removed the one partition to make a single c drive.
Unfortunately somewhere along the line I have lost the MS Office icons in my
start menu as well as in my documents. I just see windows generic folder.

Progams not coming to front
When I select a keyboard shortcut to launch a program, such as Calculator or
Volumen, the program does not load on top of other active programs but rather
loads behind and I have to tab to get the program to the front.

loss of 'Help and Support' Function in Windows XP
Hi - I'm running Windows XP Pro and have somehow lost the ability to use the
'Help and Support' function from the Start menu. When I click on it, the
cursor goes to the hourglass and back to the pointer twice. And then nothing.
I've found the 'Services' function under Admin Tools in Control Panel.
Status is blank and Startup type is Automatic. This is, I understand, as it
should be.

Installing additional Windows components without CD
I have a HP system that I bought (new) that had Windows XP Home Edition
installed. It's been kept up to date, currently running SP3. I received no
installation CD. I would like to install the Windows XP Backup utility. Is
it possible to do this without an XP installation CD?

STOP Error Blue Screen - 0x0000000F4
The next codes in parentheses look something like 0x000000003, 0x89CF....
It happens VERY frequently, seems as if im using too many system resources
or something it triggers, freezes then blue screens.
Its getting VERY annoying, someone PLEASE help.
Im sure there is better information I can provide, let me know....

Program won't start
When I logon to Windows with my regular ID and try to start AOL the flash
screen appears but the program never starts. However, if I logon to
Windows with a different userID AOL works just fine. This leads me to
believe something is screwed up in my Windows profile rather than an AOL
problem. OS is Windows XP SP3 with all updates. Any help will ne
appreciated.

Windows root\system32\hal.dll.
The previous post pointed me in the right direction in correcting the above
referenced error, but I cannot get past the chkdsk. It shows no errors, but
says it doesn't recognize my XP disc as a valid disc.
Any thoughts on where to go next?...

SENDING A FAX
I have XP PRO. I set up the fax operation according to instructions. I do
have a DSL line. Everytime I send a fax I receive "does not answer." I am
sending to the same area code and have tried it many ways with area code,
without area code, etc. For example, if my number is 773-878-9809 do I put
it in as 878-9809? In looking at your examples I have seen different ways.

Is there a way to customize the antialias?
Hi.
I like ClearType, but I think it is a little too blurry. Is there a way
to make it a little sharper, but still have antialias? I tried using
Standard and none, but they were to pixelated.
