USB Ports
Can a USB port be updated to USB 2.0 by simply downloading and installing
some kind of drivers to make that happen? I just bought a wireless
networking adapter, and it seems like it is not working on my laptops because
they are older and don't have the newer USB ports. It worked fine on our
newer desktop. When I contacted the maker, they said it worked on the
desktop because it has US...

1 Core vs. Duel Core
Probably an off-topic question so please be free to opt out on any answer if
you rather.
I've been window shopping for a new CPU and have a basic (I hope) question
to ask.
Which would be better...
a single core Pentium 4 HT CPU @ 4.0GHz
or
a duel core Pentium CPU @ 2.0GHz
Both would serve to run the OS + 1 user application with same memory/chipset
configuration. I understand th...

power control
Our comany designing UMPC, for some reseans, our hardware platform does not
support the power control interface, so, when we power off the
XP("start"->"turn off computer"->"turn off"), there will be a final screen
indicating the power can be cut off now, but we want the UMPC cut off itself
automatically, so, I want to ask some questions:
1) If we add an MCU(e.g. 8051) to cut off the...

DVD drive not recognized outside of Safe Mode Admin
Hi y'all.
I've just installed a new motherboard, graphics card and hard drive, keeping
my old DVD RW drive. I installed XP on the new drive, also installing the
Chipset and graphic card drivers as well as all other XP drivers that came
with the mobo and graphics card installation CDs. Everything seems to be
working to spec; I also upgraded to SP3.
Unfortunately, the DVD drive doesn...

:: USB hubs busted
I've got two different USB hub devices -- the kind that you plug into the computer, and
with a cord that plugs into the electricity, and then you plug the various usb peripherals
into the hub, which sits on the top of the desk.
Neither hub will work on my desktop computer. The lights come on, then the lights go on
and off and on and off and the USB-default sound from Windows XP go clung c...

PC no longer recognizing CD burner, DVD burner and floppy drive
My internal CD burner and floppy drive as well as an after market external
CD/DVD burner have all stopped functioning at the same time. The floppy
still shows up under my computer but the CD and DVD drives don't even show.
Since they have all stopped at the same time, I was assuming this was more
than just a worn out burner or drive that needed to be replaced. Im
wondering if I have lost a p...

When I try to boot up with the original drive connected, the PC will not boot.
When I try to connect the drive after boot up, the PC hangs until it is
disconnected.

I am using WinXP Pro and connected is a USB2.0 Maxtor 750GB One Touch

I wish to securely delete all information on the ext. drive so I used

format. After running it for about 4 mins, it showed that it will take 2
days to process. Thinking I can use a shredder program instead, I cancelled

I've been trawling through boards with an e-SATA port on the back panel,

Are there any Blu-Ray disk burners available now on the market?
What is the maximum capacity that a Blu-Ray disk currently on the market
can store?
I am taking a lot of pictures (and hopefully soon some Video content as
well). I would like to burn them to disk, so I am exploring the Blu-Ray
disk options.
