Hibernation vs. Standby
Regarding hibernation: I seem to have exhausted all explanations and
solutions. Hibernation is a dicey operation, at best. Microsoft even put out
an update to try and correct it. I can't understand why they insist it is a
viable option given its problems on desktops. Meanwhile, Standby seems to
work, so far. My question is: What is the effect on hard drive life....
using either standby o...

Question about taskbar icons and menus
Let's see if I can describe this accurately.
I would like to adjust the menu options for the taskbar notification
icon of my wireless network connection to add "Disable" and "Enable"
to that menu so I don't have to go into Network Connections every
time. Is it possible to change the menu options like that? Am I
being clear with my question?...

System Restore
I have a lot of external hdds. Some are for my original files and the other
half are used for backups. Because of this, I don't need System Restore

off System Restore for these drives a lot of times but they keep getting
turned back on.
Is there another way to keep System Restore turned off for my external ha...

Why does this fail?
If I type a folder name into the Run box, XP opens the folder. Except
for one folder, C:\Docs\My Music. Its 14 GB size can't be the reason,
because other even larger folders open OK (e.g. C:\Docs). Anyone know
the explanation please?

No 2.1 and 4.1 sound setups in Windows XP's advanced audio properties?
Hello.
I noticed Windows XP's advanced audio properties don't show 2.1 and 4.1
speakers setups, but do have .1 (subwoofer) for 5 and 7 speakers setups.
Is there a way to have/add 2.1/4.1 speakers setups?
Thank you in advance. :)

SP3 vs SP2 (both fully updated) -> what's the difference?
If I keep an installation of XP pro (sp2) fully updated and patched,
then what is the difference between that and SP3?
Besides something called NAP service, I thought that SP3 was (at the
time of it's release) just a roll-up of various SP2 patches. No?
I also heard some claims back when SP3 was in beta that SP3 system
performance was 5 to 10% faster than current SP2. Are the

XP goes OUT of Hibernation BY IT SELF!
I set my XP (HPavillion) to hibernate but it insists on turning itself on
anyway! It usually takes about an hour or so for this to happen. I've tried
a number of steps recommended by HP (re-installing KB 909095) changing the
power options for the network adapter, and reinstalling the APCI hardware.
Still, no luck.
Out of Options?
Any ideas welcome,
