Multiple instances problem
I wonder if anyone here can help me fix a problem that's been annoying
me for a year or two please, even though it's not strictly a pure XP
issue?
I like to open JPG files with IrfanView so I have that set as my JPG
association in XP File Types. Then I use a facility in IrfanView to
open the file in any of 3 external editors, the first of which I've
specified as PaintShop Pro 8. But that a...

Is there a way to customize the antialias?
Hi.
I like ClearType, but I think it is a little too blurry. Is there a way
to make it a little sharper, but still have antialias? I tried using
Standard and none, but they were to pixelated.
Thank you in advance. :)

Purge Former User Folder(s)
I had to reinstall XP. However, many of those original default user folders
are still there (C:\Documents and Settings\username...) and I want to use
them instead of the new ones that have been created. As the answerer to thsi
inquiry will know, when Windows creates a folder for a new user who has the
same username as a former user, it makes a fodler in the former

'acquiring network address.' EVEN THOUGH THE INTERNET IS UP AND RUNNING! How

Thanks,

Can one tell Explorer to accept filesnames containing only an extension?
Again and again I run into this most annoying behavior of Explorer that
it does not accept filenames that only have an extension.
When dealing with certain packages that are designed to run across
multiple platforms (e.g. eclipse) one frequently has to deal with such
files (e.g. .plugin or .project - these are files that are supposed to
be normally hidden in *nix systems and so their na...

Show folders by default in Explorer
Hi,
I am trying to customize the folder view in Explorer (looking at files), so
that the folders are automatically shown on the left hand side.
Everytime I open the application, I have to click on the folders icon. I
have tried to customize a folder to my liking and then checking the box for
"apply to all folders" under Tools/Folder/Options/View, to no avail.
I do not have administ...

Scheduling multi-core systems
In the good old days, when systems had just one processor, it was easy
to stop a background task from hogging your system; you set it to idle
priority.
This no longer works, and the more processors you have, the worse the
problem is.
My system just started its daily backup, and that is so I/O bound that
it seriously affects any other process doing disc I/O.
Setting it to idle prio...

I have used "Total viedo convertor" to convert a .wma file into various

or Youtube (the latter 3 viedo formats should be acceptable to Facebook &
Youtube). I guess the failure is due to the source file is an audio fi...

Memorize view settings per folder?
How can one convince XP to memorize the view settings (i.e. icon / list
/ thumbnails / etc.) on a per folder basis?
There are different folders that require different settings, but XP
keeps showing me everything as detailed list (while this is my preferred
default, it is definitely not the optimum for *all* folders). And -
yes - I *DO* have the "Remember each folder's view settings" in ...

Can anyone answer a few questions about the Run box (in XP Pro)

Laptop shutdown question
I have a Dell Inspiron 1720, came with Vista.. I removed Vista and installed
Winxp Pro. "love it"..
Well anyway, I was wondering if under power options, The only 2 choices for
closing the lid are
"do nothing", and "stand by".... Is it possible to have additional option
added "Shutdown"..
It's still a great trade off, even if it's not possible.. Just wondering...
Thanks
