Time server error - Firewalled
I am looking for a method to supply a password to a proxy server when using
the internet time service. I am not logged into my client's network, but I
am connect to their LAN and behind their firewall. I can reach the interenet
using a password protected proxy server. The time service works well when
not behind client firewall, but I spend more time behind the firewall than
not.

No sound
Windows XP home

Hi,
I have no sound... no system sounds, and nothing plays on media player... I
would appreciate help on this... been trying to resolve this for days now...
and have tried many different things to solve this problem on my own...from

TASKBAR
MY TASKBAR IS NOW TWICE THE HEIGHT IT USED TO BE.. HOW DO I RESIZE DOWN.. I
HAVE WINDOWS XP......
IT WILL DRAG UP TO HALF THE SIZE OF THE SCREEN , BUT IT WON'T DRAG DOWN TO

Startup Installation
Please help, I have recently re-installed Spyware Doctor because of
performance problems but when I restart my system the Windows Installer
wizard tries to install something, it doesn't tell me what, then a Norton
Anti Virus message stops it saying "Norton Anti Virus doesn't support the
repair"? huh?
Can anyone tell me how I can see what it's trying to install, so I can
disable/fix it...

Latest page doesn't download automatically
Hi, I always have to use the Ctrl button and refresh to get the latest
weather radar picture, earthquake info, etc. These are all set as favorites
and shortcuts. Can you tell me how to tweek the settings to get IE6, SP2 to
download the latest page? Thanks, I am not really computer savvy....

I am using a lap top that I have not used in a while and I can download

Brand new Windows xp media center UNABLE to open pdf .
Hi There,
I have a brand new Windows xp media center (5 months old).I am UNABLE
top open pdf messages. My PC writes,
Unable to find or create the font "RRTVU and Trebuchet MS".
Is there a place (exactly where, please) on the Web from which I can
download something or is there a way of doing it from inside my PC?

Shared folder hidden
Dear all
This has probably been asked before but I can't find a solution by
searching this group anyway.
I have shared a folder on my laptop c:\shared (yes the name of the
share is "shared"
I have turned off "simple file sharing"
My laptop is connected to the internet via a router.
All other computers on the LAN can access the share!

Mapping Drive Letter to Sub folder of my documents
C:\Documents and Settings\Paul W Smith\My Documents\IckenhamCC\Membership
I would like to map a drive letter to the above directory - can this be
done?
When I select map drive, I cannot browse to anywhere other then places in My
Network Places.
Am I looking to achieve something that cannot be done.

Windows XP won't load after automatic update
My laptop received the latest automatic Windows update (5/9) and fails to
load Windows after the auto restart. Have got into safe mode and tried 2
system restores to no avail. Any fixes without re-installing the OS?

how to set Windows to open .bat files using my own editor?
Hi,
When I right-click on a .bat file, the right-click menu has a item
"Open". If I choose "Open", Windows will use notepad to open the bat
file. My question is how to make Windows to open the bat file using my
preferred editor. I go the "Folder options" but didn't see .bat is in
the file type list. Can someone kindly show me how to do it? Thanks

How to restore the path?
From a DOS box, I typed "path /p" when I meant to type "path" to query
the path. Now the path is set to "/p".

Network connection wizard
Trying to add a new dialup connection. Control Panel > Network
Connections > New Connection Wizard > Connect to internet > Set up
connection manually. "Connect using dialup modem" is grayed out,

Win XP Login/task manager behavior

Windows XP standard has XP startup/login behavior: nice welcome screen with
squares to click for different accounts. If you have but one account, it
automatically starts up. When in windows you hold down ctrl+alt+del you get

I recently installed Windows XP Professional after a number of problems with
my previous installation. I also added a Buffalo USB External 250Gb hard

Starting
I have an HP computer with Windows XP Home SP2. About 3 years old. For a
while now my monitor often, but not always, switches itself off from
approx.2-5 minutes after start up. When I press the monitor switch the
light briefly comes on and then goes off again. The computer light remains
on. I then have to switch my computer off by pushing the power on button and

Disable registry resets and all that other automated XP stuff ... (can't remember what it's called ...)
I read a few weeks back in the archives why XP is so much more
annoyingly "automated" as a default than Win98SE, etc. I'd realized
that when I first started working on friends' and family's XP since
over a couple of years ago. I've had my XP for several months now and

Money 99
Hello
I have installed Money 99 from the Microsoft Works CD onto a laptop running
Windows XP. When I start the program however I get 'The ordinal 6467 could
not be located in the dynamic link library MFC42.dll'. I have googled and
searched the knowledge base but nothing was very helpful. Could anyone help

where is the icon for remote desktop connection ?
Hi,
I want to connect to another computer through remote desktop connection.
But I couldn't find the icon for it. I have read through the help
menu. There are some deeper discussions but this most basic info about
how to start it seems missing. I would like to create a short cut to
