WIRELESS THINGS TO DO BEFORE CALLING YOUR PC COMPANY
Many times individuals call PC manufacturers to report a wireless
problem before they actually check to see if the problem is on the
customer's end. To save some grief try some of these steps first.
1. Check your router Do you see power and the lights on?
2. Check the cable modem is there a orange internet conect light on.
If not stop problem not your computer it's either your cable modem...

J2SE Runtime Environment
My new computer came in October 2006 with J2SE Runtime
Environment 5.0 (whatever that is) and I see in my list
of Add/Remove Programs that I have about 6 Updates
ending with Update 11 .... a total of close to
1 GB of software that I'm carrying. My question is,
have those updates been installed, and if not, should
I install them, and if so.....how?
Search shows that I have 'Update 5.msi' at ...

two many boots
I was running 98se and upgraded to XP, however it took two attempts as on
the first occassion it was installed on the wrong disc which I then wiped.
The trouble is that now when I boot up instead of being offered the choice
of 98 or XP I get 98/XP/XP with one of the XP options pointing to the now
empty drive.
How do I remove this boot option at startup?

Windows Explorer does NOT find devices (but are working USB device
I have 2 USB "Storage Vaults" (external hard drives) which I have used for

stopped appearing as visible drives using Windows Explorer. They
both, however, DO show up in Control panel/Systems . . and both are indicated
to be "working properly." But, Windows Explorer does NOT FIND THEM, so I have

Window explorer opening multiple instance of Excel
When I open several files at once thru Windows Explorer, each file is opened
in a separate instance of Excel. I want all files in one instance of Excel;
i.e. all files should be visible from the Window pane of Excel. I have a
macro that opens each file separately (ActivateNext) and then closes each
file. This seems to be dependent on which work station around the office.

Windows Toolbar Anchored at top of Desktop?
I can't rearrange the order of the items in the toolbar! I anchored "My
Computer" to the top of the desktop, and there are multiple items that
overflow the two lines that I have auto hidden. A small double arrow appears
at the end, and if I click it, I can see the overflow items. One of those
items is the one I use most often, "My Documents." Many other items in "My

Boot-up peculiarity
My XP system has developed a new quirk during boot-up.
Everything acts normally up to the point where all the
icons appear as underdeveloped and then fill in with
their identities. The next step, always, and I'm used
to it, is that Norton Protection Center goes through its
checking and announced all is well in the toolbar.
Now the screen goes blank, black, for maybe 5 or 6 seconds,

Hello. I just re-formatted and re-installed Win XP Pro in an effort to solve
this problem but it persists. I had only two drives connected - the C HD and
the CD-ROM Drive. After installing XP I immediately tried to shutdown

except what XP put there during the installation process. What could
possibly be causing it to ...

BOLD, Italic & Underlining ...
Hi,
when I want to either Bold, Italic, Underline, change font size or location
of text or a word, I highlight the chosen text and then click bold for
example.
The problems is that not only the word/text I have highlighted becomes bold
- the whole document does... and all the text.
So I then have to use the back button to "undo".
Now, my work requires me to edit text frequently an...

I just installed WinXP Home Edition for someone, and applied all the
non-optional updates from the Microsoft site. But I can't expand the

If I move it to, say, the right side, I can expand it all I want
horizontally. But this expansion isn't preserved if I move the bar
back to the bottom except for a very minor amount. A...
