Can't Paint in Color With Paint
If this question is in the wrong place, please direct me to the right place.
I have what appears to be a black and white picture (more like a clip art),
gif, saved and open in paint. I am trying to fill in areas with color, but
it will only do black or white, even when I change the background and
foreground colors by left and right clicking.

Is there a way to get the recycle bin off the desktop and put it, say, on

Doesn't go into hibernation
Is there any practical way to determine what is preventing
my XP Home/SP2 from going into hibernation? Not always, but
frequently, even overnight, it will stay alive, with nothing
minimized in the toolbar. There are so many "Compaq-Owner"
processes showing in the Windows Task Manager, that are
contractions that I can't even identify, that it isn't
exactly practical to terminate them and wait...

News reader
Is there a news group reader that most people here use? I'm looking for one that actually downloads news article files as opposed to giving you a peek at a distant server while online.

Unable to boot
My computer crashed and I am unable to boot from the harddisk. I can't even
boot in safe mode. There is data on the hard drive I wish to get to. Is
it possible to boot from the XP cd, then link to the C: drive. If so, I
could copy off the ../my documents/*.* to an external drive. Then, after I
have my data, rebuild the PC.
Any ideas here? I'm really stuck. The computer is a Thi...

XP Folder Tree - How does it work?
Can somebody explain to me how the tree of folders works on MS XP Pro (SP3)?
1 I’ve just had MS XP Pro (SP3) re-loaded (after a hard disk crash) and it
gives me what I guess is a default ‘My documents’ folder at the top. Can any
user save files to this folder? If they do is this then the only place that
they can access them again or can you find them elsewhere on the folder tree?

drive not recognized by windows
Running win xp pro and have a WD 80 GB hard drive for my primary drive. Just
added a WD 250GB hard drive for storage. Jumpers for the 80gb are set as
master and the 250gb is set as slave. Bios recognizes both drives but
windows does not. How do I get windows to recognize the new drive so that I
can format it and begin to use it. Thanks

Desktop shortcuts disappearing
Logging into a domain account, a user has lost several icons on his desktop.
Looking at accounts on hios c\docs and settings\ he has his normal account
name and also severl accountname\DOMAIN.000 through 004 so it seems to be not
picking up his normal account.
What would cause this and how would I get his old settings back?

Backing up my computer
Hi I am using windows xp and need to back up my computer and have a couple
basic questions since I have never done this......can I back up everything
pictures/music/files? To do so can I back it up to disc's? Or is that silly
should I buy an external hard drive if so where to I begin on finding one

NO SOUND EXCEPT FOR THE "BEEP"
My hard drive died and I replaced, reloaded windows xp and now when I go to
the contol pannel, and click on 'sounds and audio devices" it tells me "no
audio device", worng, I never touched anything but the hard drive.
Is it telling me i have no sound card, I do came with the machine?
No drivers?
I do get the "beep" that lets me know I have closed a window or what ever,
but no audio on...

Boot to Desktop?

Help with hyper links please!!!
I have no idea what I did or didn't do but I can no longer get hyper links to
work when using Internet Explorer.
Everything works just fine when I am using the AOL browser but not when
using Internet Explorer. I click on the hyperlinks and nothing happens.
I do think I boo-booed when I reset the Internet Explorer settings. It
didn't help anything and now I have an opening page that...

Memory stick stops working
When I put a memory stick (4GB) in a USB drive it comes up with the option
to open the folder, and I can see all the files I have there. However I
can't open them, and if I then use Windows explorer it doesn't show any
files there anymore.
Is there a way to 'repair' it?

screensaver tab
I was trying to use my pictures as screensavers.
When I go control panel... display, there is no screensaver tab. Only
themes, appearance and settings.
Am I missing something basic?
