Can someone explain how Roaming Profiles and mapped My Documents work together?
If I understand correctly, if I enter a path in User Properties\Profile
(tab)\Profile Path, say \\ServerName\UserName the users profile will reside
there and no matter what computer they log into the will always use the same
profile, hence roaming profiles.
If I understand correctly the user profile at \\ServerName\UserName is
copied to the users PC each time they log in.
What I'm tryi...

IE privacy settings won't stay set
Each time I start IE7 the privacy settings are reset to the lowest level
(all cookies).
*This happens even in WinXP safe mode.
*It happens everytime I start IE from the start menu or desktop shortcut.
For example if I start a second instance of IE then the privacy settings are
reset.
*It doesn't happen when if I select a URL to "open in a new window".
*I've scanned my PC with every Adw...

Creating a LAN on GateWay Laptop?
I have a device, essentially like a camera, that needs a ethernet port and
address, 10:0:0:0. I've created a port on W2000, and can successfully use it
there. I did it years ago by assigning the device to a LAN. How do I do this
in XP Pro?

Remote Desktop
In windows XP you have to check a box in the system properties to allow
remote desktop.
Does anybody know if there is a way to check this box remotely?
I want to active on our users workstations but I don't want to have to walk
all around our company to do it.
Do I have any options?
Thanks,

Hibernate no longer operative
Over the last few days I seem to have lost access to the “hibernate†mode.
Below I list three phenomena which taken together mean I cannot use Hibernate
any more. My working hypothesis is that a recent automatic Windows Update has
caused this annoying state of affairs.
My system is a Dell Dimension 8400 runnig Windows XP Pro SP3. Hibernate is
enabled in Control Panel|Power Options.

Licensing for Dual Boot
This may be slightly off topic for the XP board, but people here seem
to know more about Microsoft licensing than elsewhere.
My Office 2003 is licensed to run on three machines, and it is
installed on my three macines, and all is well. I've now set up one
of the machines as a Vista/XP dual boot.
If I install Office on both OS partitions, does Microsoft's licensing
count that as one ma...

Diplaying Content.ie5 in Temporary Internet Files Folder
Why is it that subfolders of Temporary Internet Files (in this case
Content.ie5) are not displayed when the user is logged on (they are displayed
if I switch user). Is there a way to get them to display. I have checked the
display hidden files and folders and cleared the hide protected operating

(KB948110) Security Update for Win Server 2003
Hi:
I posted the following in WindowsUpdate Newsgroup some days back, but no
one ever replied, so I thought that I would try this Newsgroup to see if
possibly someone might have an answer.

I have a friend running XP Home Edition SP3 and Windows Update is trying
to install Security Update for Windows Server 2003 (KB948110) which I would
think is an erroneous update for X...

C Drive capacity erroneous reading
I have a user who is unable to save anything over 200M
Going into My Computer shows 250M free, yet going into the CD drive, showing
all hidden folders and system files etc, selecting all of them and clicking
on properties shows only 5.5G of 20G in use. There is almost 14G seemingly
in use but I can't see it.
Is there a way of finding this disk space and claiming it back?
Thanks
