In Outlook Express how to download attachments after checking the sender?
Dear Basics Expert,
When I open the Outlook Express and click "Receive All" I get the name
of the sender (good), the subject (good) , the message (good) but also
the attachments. I am worried that if the E-mail is coming from
someone I do not know, the attachment may have a virus etc. in it.
Question: Is there a way of opening the attachements AFTER I checked
who the sender is?

Virus??
Hi Everybody,
I have noticed on my win XP PC, that i cant type in any type of dialogue box
at all, what happens, is a continuous line of forward slash type lines run
across the box preventing me from entering data. This also applies to IE

Identifying processes
I'm trying to get at some of the things I don't like about my system.
Is there anything, any web site, any book I can use to identify processes?
I see cryptic names not only on processes but in msconfig, for instance, and
I have no clue what they are related to. Especially in msconfig (and
related starters) I think I might be able dispense with some ongoing

My sound recorder records for 1 minute only. Is 2 minutes possible?
Hello Basic Expert,
I have a good radio with a circular stereo jack hole in the back. I
can join the radio to my Windows XP computer using a cable with 2
stereo jacks, the other jack going in the audio "line-in(?)" circular
hole on the PC. I can start recording to my "sound recorder" perfectly

Remove Attribute
I have a couple of folders and files that I would like to delete.
When I try I am told they are 'read only' and cannot be deleted.
How can I remove or change this attribute so they can be deleted?

Im a day trader and my trading programs run best on XP. Im in the process of

Power Options Failure
Running Windows XP Pro SP3 on a desktop computer. I have had no other
problems, recently, but yesterday I noticed the computer would not go
into power saving mode. The screen saver would work...sometimes, but
it never got beyond this.
I opened Control Panel - Power Options and the settings looked as they

Remove old name and password prompt
This is an example scenario describing my question.
When I launch the backend of my Zen Cart site I am presented by Windows with
a Username and Password dialog box.
Windows offers me remembered names/text as I start to enter details.
I wish to delete old and redundant entries from this prompt list.

File icons
Hi I have a problem with file icons in Windows Explorer.
I am using Detail View, so every file has a small icon to the left of name.
I have changed file association for .mpg files so they play with a
different player.

Anti-Virus question
In the world of anti-virus software I've seen a lot about virus vaults and
have a dumb question.
Why does anyone ever want to store a virus on their computer. I thought the
idea was to get it OFF the computer. (In my view, "It doesn't hurt
anything" isn't an answer.)

Problem: WindowsXP and Internet Explorer
Can someone explain why the first time I installed WindowsXP on a
40Gig drive Internet Explorer worked perfectly without me having to
use the Verizon disks to set up a connection, but all subsequent
WindowsXP install attempts on identical drives have resulted in an

Daylight saving not working
All of my Windows XP Pro workstations got their system time change back one
hour since last Sunday. It's not suppose to change until next Sunday. When I

Trouble with external hard drive
I have a Storix hard drive that simply plugs into a USB port and has always
worked to perfection. tonight I tried to plug it in and it appeared to
install properly, however, the device does not show up on Windowes Exlporer

Prompt For User Id and Password
I'm using Windows XP Professional in a peer to peer network environment.
I have turned off simple file sharing. How can I set up my machines
so the user is prompted for a User Id and password when they try to
access a file share on another machine? Or is this feature only
available when connected through a domain server? Thanks....

can't uninstall Windows Defender

I have windows XP SP3, I want to uninstall Windows Defender but it won't go.
It went from add/remove but the files and folders are still in Program Files

where do I point a users Home folder for Roaming Profiles?
I'm trying to setup Folder Redirection for the My Documents folder in

Deleting System32/MUI folders
Is there a way to permanently delete the many sub folders in
C:\windows\system32\MUI ?
I can delete them all, but after a day or so I notice they have all
returned.
I do not need multilanguage support so i don't need these folders.

Reappearing zip
OK, I download a ZIP file. When I try to use it I get an error saying it is
corrupted. I delete it. Then I empty the Recycle bin. Than I go to
download it again and I get a notice saying I already have it.
Does ANYTHING delete ANYTHING anymore?
