Recovering Files with Backup
I've been using the Backup utility to save recovery files on an external hd.
Is it possible to retrieve a specific file from the bkf file? When using the
Restore feature of Backup I don't see how I could do that.

Unzipping Files
I downloaded winzip some time ago, but yesterday, while mistakenly believing
I was updating my winzip 9 version, I downloaded a new winzip 12 version.
By doing so, I removed the 9 version and winzip is free for only 45 days.
(I bought my previous version.) I guess there's no way now to get back my 9
version, but I use winzip only to unzip zipped files from the internet. I

Cannot Share Files
Hi:
I have a Linksys Wireless Router BEFW1154 connected to my Sony desktop and
a Toshiba laptop with Linksys Adapter for my Local Area Network (LAN).
I have two folders on each computer that I have selected file sharing (My

Spywaredetector
There seems to be some confusion about an anti-spyware program out there
called SpywareDetector at www.spywaredetector.net and
www.spywaredetector.com. Some info sources say it's OK. Some say it's not.
CNET says it's OK.

Safe Mode
How to get the long list of options for startup, one of which is Safe Mode?
I haven't used it in wuite a while, maybe forgotten how, maybe some glitch
in system. Single OS, not dual boot. Help file describes a screen from which
to select: "When you see the message Please select the operating system to
start, press F8. "
Whaaat? Don't see that. Used to be tap f8, then no trouble. Not now....

e-mail attachments
I often get e-mails with attachments that are jpg's or jpeg's. I download and
open them and its a picture or image. At the bottom of the e-mail there is
often a left and right arrow to go to the next image. If I continue, I see
images that have nothing to do with the e-mail. They are from another e-mail
or a site I've previously visited. Sometimes I don't even recognize the item

Nonconnected computer running 98 need drivers installed/updated.
I recently recieved a donation of computers (Dell Optliplex GX150's.)
for the students in our self contained classroom. They had to be
stripped of their OS which I didn't see as a problem until I attempted

Administrator Account'
I am the only one using this computer and it has two accounts: Admninistrator
and User.
When I bought this pre-owned computer, it was signed in as an
'Administrator' (which I did not know at the time).
I installed programs and customized settings under this account. When I

IS IE8 not compatible with Mcafee security center
I contract Mcafee through Comcast cable. I recently downloded and installed
IE8. Upon doing so I could only pull up a clear pop up box for mcafee
security center with no menus listed. However after uninstalling IE8 mcafee
worked fine. Is there asolution to this problem where i can have them

Has anybody here got onto the AVG Forum?
I switched from AVG 7 Free and a great experience to AVG 8 Expensive and
have had nothing but trouble since - and they do NOT address problems.
When I try to get on the forum the system goes into a loop.

UPS Power Options - Error 2481
I'm setting up a new computer running XP Pro. The UPS tab is not available
in Power Options of the Control Panel. The computer and monitor is plugged
into an APC Back-UPS ES750 and connected from the UPS data port to the
computer's USB port. I have NOT installed APC's software and would prefer to

Home network, can't access one drive - 1TB size
I have three computers, all running XP Pro, on which I am trying to share all
the drives. This works for all but one of the drives, a newly installed 1 TByte
internal drive. When I attempt to access it from either of the other computers

A feature of windows xp home edition is not working
i meet a xp home edition within can copy a file but can not paste to
the same folder , it will show "can't copy ,the folder name of source

Useful key strokes lost
I used to be able to use a ctrl+c and ctrl+v to copy then paste in 'Word',
email, web sites etc. Recently I have lost this function and a ctrl+ c or v
justs deletes the highlighted text and substitutes a 'c' or a 'v'
Can anyone help?...

Lost connection to Internet
Hello,
After turning on computer there is not connection to Internet, and
I do not know what else I can do to restore it.
1.
There is a connection to Internet in the Virtual PC guest (Windows XP).
Only host (also Windows XP) lost the connection.
2.
I restored host Windows XP to the earlier date and that did not help either.

XP SP3 updates fails
I recently had to replace a hard disk. The repair people installed an
old version of Windows XP. I updated to SP3.
But when I later tried to run Windows update, all I get is "error". I
tried referring to FAQ but could find no reason why.
I turned off virus protection, and have the latest update software.
Any ideas on why I cannot update the new SP3 are very welcome.

wireless network
I am a new XP user. After I run Wireless Network Setup Wizard internet
connection works fine UNTIL I shut down and reboot. Then browser
opens, but it can not connect with a web page until I run the WNS
Wizard again. Something simple I hope?...
