Remove/delete an unresponsive program
A few days ago my paid subscription to Ad-Aware expired and Lavasoft,
naturally, offered a renewal at the same price or I could subscribe instead
to a free version. When I attempted to subscribe to Ad-Aware Free nothing
worked properly so after several additional attempts I decided to delete
Ad-Aware altogether, using Add/Remove Programs and Ad-Aware's own uninstall
link. Failing that ...

RAM Boosting programs --- are they worth it?
Hi, all !
I have a quad-core machine, with 16GB of RAM.
I use it for very heavy duty rendering jobs, requiring lots and lots
and LOTS of memory.
Even with the 16 GB of memory and XP 64-bits, there are times the
thing goes to paged RAM.
Currently I have 2 choices --- either change the mobo and upgrade the
RAM to 32 GB, or getting one of those "RAM Boosting" programs to
manage the RA...

New to XP
I just upgraded to XP from 98SE and need a little advice. The upgrade
included SP2 and Windows wants me to add the SP3 patch. So far I haven't
and I've heard conflicting stories about SP3. Should I keep refusing
permission for the update? I'm not really happy with this damn thing
calling home all the time, anyway. Is there any way to put a stop to that?
I'll start monitoring this new...

Is the sound recorder supported by XP home edition?
In my XP media center edition on my Dell desktop the sound
recorder is available through Start > Programs > Accessories

edition Compaq notebook.
The file Sndrec32.exe is on the notebook though, in the
System32 sub directory. But the volume control program,
Sndvol32.exe, is missing. I copied the volume file over to

About external hard drives
I'm ready to buy an external hard drive and there are three office
supply/computer stores here offering 500GB units for about the same price,
$80-90, made by Western Digital, Maxtor, and Seagate. (Maybe Seagate and
Maxtor are the same company now; the Seagate box says "Maxtor technology" in
one corner.)
Would anyone with experience care to recommend one of these over the other?

Yes. Now my standard user is having issues running

Several months ago I replaced Norton (by Symantec) with McAfee.
I went to Start > Control Panel > Add or remove programs and removed
Norton and Symantec applications.
Yesterday while cleaning up temporary files, I discovered that my hard

computer is still loading Symantec's automatic update when it boots (I

re upgrading from service pack 2 to service pack 3
my system is a Dell Dimension 4700C with Windows XP Professional SP2.
I recently upgraded to SP3 via download from a microsoft site. The reinstall
cd that came with the system is for SP2. Do I need a reinstall cd for the
SP3, should I find it necessary to do a reinstall - as I did a couple of
times with the SP2 - or will I just have to try and download a new copy from
the microsoft site?

Rumor has it, MS will be coming out with a FREE AV bundled with the FREE

Must have been a significant enough rumor as Symantec and McAfee stock
went

AVG/AVAST others may have to scale down efforts, unfortunately as
revenues
may fall on their fee-based products.
