How do I access Google directly from Windows Live Msgr?
I have 2 questions I really need help for
1. How can I go from Windows Live Messenger directly to Google...can I
access Google from Windows Live Messenger without closing it and then
clicking on my Google icon on my desktop?
2. Does my computer have to be on for Windows to install updates??

Question about a virus
I want to ask you if a virus can cause a moniter to quit working. My
brother got antivirus2009 on his computer,and couldn't get it off, so
he connected a computer that didn't have a virus and the moniter
wouldn't come on, then that computer was disconnected and the one with
a virus reconnected and the moniter wouldn't work yet, and even
another cord that went to the moniter didn't help. I did...

help file and msconfig missing
After updating last month I am missing Help & Suppport in my Start window
and msconfig.exe when I try to find it in Run. I updated SP3 and security
updates on 11/22 and just recently found this problem when I tried to create
a restore point. I found Restore in Accessories > System Tools but am unable
to find msconfig.exe that will run.
Any thoughts or ideas.

XP System Files corrupted by Norton Uni-Install
In the process of having Norton Internet Security uni-install previous
programs (including Systemworks 2003), either my Registry was corrupted or
some system libraries were corrupted. Now, no .exe's work. I can get to
internet, but can used any .exe's to help fix the issue. Moroever, I can't
get to previous SYstem Restore point because when I follow prompts I get
rrundll.exe error.

Files now Read Only
Many of my files have swtiched to become Read Only, for example all my
photos! So I can't edit them, even simple edits like saving a photo as a
small file to send? Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, ie, all the common
stuff that I use everyday.

Update
Hiya,
I am running xp home and have just installed an update from Microsoft.
I am now getting a screen asking me to activate windows before I can log
on.
I am then informed that Windows is already activated and to log on.
The cycle then repeats!

need help with .exe file on cd
I posted this on another newsgroup and didn't get any help , anyone with
any ideas where to look next
I use an older program (Sierra's Print Artist 3.0 ) in Windows XP. It has
worked fine for 3 years. Now it won't open. I uninstalled it and now it
won't reinstall. If I click on the setup.exe file on the cd all I get is

When my paid subscription expired I responded to Lavasoft's invitation for

Winlogon.exe
Hi
I have WinPatrol installed and it has started to detect a new auto startup
program / C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Owner\winlogon.exe/ and is asking if
this prog is approved to run each time I login or restart.
I am not sure whether or not this is a trojan or whether it is genuine. I
believe the genuine one is in C\Windows\System 32.

Disassociated DVD play with app.
I inserted a DVD and mistakenly chose RealPlayer to
play it, and made it the default. How I can I disassociate the
application? I looked at the VIDEO_TS files, and the
filetypes *.VOB, *.IFO, and *.BPU did not not have
any app. associated with these files in Explorer->
Folder Options->File Types.

kernel32.dll is consuming my system
kernel32.dll is consuming my system. I've used the latest ZoneAlarm to scan
my system and it has not reported any issues. I've also run a Google search
for kernel32.dll and got a lot of hits but nothing I saw seemed to be a
solution. It is quite possible that I just did not understand what I was
being told.
I've scanned my HD for "kernel32" and found kernel32.dll a total of five
times...

still having a problem with shutdown speed
I am still having a problem with shutdown speed.
There's plenty of advice on what to do decrease shut down time, but I
can't find a thing about the long time it takes between selecting
"Turn Off Computer" in the "Start" menu and finally getting the actual
"Turn Off Computer" box to actually turn off the computer. It sounds
like something is running during that time period, at least the HD'...

SP3 Update
Well.. thanks to a lot of helpful people in here, I got the Update
completed. Without a hitch, I might add. I realize that's a bit of
premature boasting. There's still loads of Apps I haven't tried yet, but
my browser, mail, and Xnews are working without a hitch. :)
I set the auto-update to notify me rather than downloading and installing
crap I may not want/need. I hate it when the ...

Right click menu "Resize Pictures" and "Preview" exist, but do not function
Hi,
I have lost the functionality of previewing pictures and resizing them
from the Powertoys for XP. Ich have uninstalled and reinstalled the
Powertoy. I have registered everything like recommended in this and
other news groups, but no success. What can I do to register

Error: Temp\wer27dd.dir00 Repeatedly received
I receive the following error, below, [or whatever] at least 4 times/day w/a
reboot needed most of the time...How do I fix this so I'm not being
continually asked to send a note to Microsoft, rebooting, etc?

shut down hard drive automaticly or hibernate
My computer power use to shut down after 20 minutes or so, now without
changing anything it has stopped & my power is always on......
Previously after 20 minutes my computer would appear to shut down as the
power light went off, then when i hit power button it would come back on to
my desktop with out having to re boot.... would that be in hibernation mode

a program in my program list is hi-lighted
In my program list on the start menu there is one program UnHSolutions IE
Privacy Keeper which I downloaded Dec.7 it is staying lit up or hi-lighted on
my list...Can anyone tell me why and how to un-hilight it????...

Upgrading to Win XP Pro
I'd like to go from W2K to XP Pro. It looks like the typical upgrade package
is no longer available from MS. I understand SP3 is the latest SP.Is this

installed minimum features, now want more--where are they?
