Log Conversion?
Is there a utility that can convert standard Windows Media Services Log
Formats to the Legacy 4.1 Formats? We just discovered that our Webtrends
reporting software does not work properly with the standard format and the
logs need to be in 4.1 format. Unfortunately, all of our logs for the past
several months are in standard format....

Remote Source
We currently broadcast a local program from our server. We have also
successfully broadcast through our server from a remote location with a
static IP address. I was wondering if there was a way to force media to our
server from a remote location if the remote IP is dynamic or the remote
location is using a private IP on a LAN, 192.168.0.0, etc....

Posting high quality video on WMS
I'm struggling to understand the ins and outs of on-demand video with
WMS. I'm trying to explain intelligently how, msnbc video for
example, is so much clearer and fluid than the videos we are putting
out on the internet via Windows Media Services.
Basically, we are taking a DVD and encoding it into a WMV with WMS and
then creating an on-demand publishing point. If I encode it at 300K
fo...

IP camera feed to WMS
We have a range of Panasonic IP cameras.
We have also windows 2K3 server on which we are planning broadcast
feeds from IP cameras.
How is it possible to take the video feed from these cameras and
broadcast it over the internet? It looks like WMS is not made to take
a feed from a IP source and broadcast it over the Internet.
We don't want to use directly IP cameras as primary media server due...

Other protocols?
Heya all.. so I've been playing with WME streaming up to the server and
out.. and my sysadmin says to use the mms:// links (assuming an MMS protocol
usage).. non-IE browsers seem to have a problem with this.. and even the
spawned HTML page from WMS has MMS embedded.. so are there other protocol
options for delivery of a live stream? Thanks

Time limitation for publishing point

I'm looking for a way to limit users time of publishing point use.
I mean;
I have a user that connect to our media server to broadcast with the same

Calculating Time Client Connected to the Server
Hi,
My understanding of the log files generated by windows media server is
that:
The [cs-duration] fields tells me how long the client was connected
for, and the [date] and [time] fields tell me when the log entry was
generated.
Log entries are generated when the client disconnects. So if the [cs-
duration] field contains 120 and the [time] field sats 20:05, I can
deduce that the cli...

Stream switching
Hi
I am running a transparent proxy for RTSP/RTP streams. Assuming I have MBR
on WMS I can use set_parameter from the client to switch to a different
stream. If I send the request from the proxy to WMS then the problem is WMP
is not aware the request has gone out and hence freezes when the switched
stream is made available by WMS.
I essentially want to control stream switching from ...

Stream switching
Hi
I can stream switch using set_parameter RTSP from WMP to WMS.
When I introduce a transparent proxy between WMS and WMP sending
set_parameter from the proxy to WMS to switch streams does not work and WMP
freezes because it did not initiate the request.
Does anyone have a solution to this ?
Willing to offer consultancy to anyone that can help me out.
Many Thanks...

Hi,
"Must begin playing the first child of an EXCL to start the playlist"
Can anyone explain to me, what the cause of such notification in the event

- the first element has the begin="0s" attribute
- the last element has the wallclock value of, say, "22:00"

Playback of wmv via Helix with WMP11
We currently serve many wmv files from a Helix server using MMS protocol.
Since the introduction of WMP11 we've discovered that WMP11 won't playback a
true stream of a wmv file off of the Helix server. In some cases the user
gets an error that "the specified protocol is not supported", in other cases
the file will play, but it is downloaded in the background so one can't skip
ahead unti...
