Book Recommendation ?? (on Vista Firewall)
Good afternoon everyone,
I'm looking for a good book recommendation :
I am a beginning admin and have just learned (and am "playing" with) TCP,
UDP, IP,ICMP,CIDR, the OSI model, ect. Is there a good book that will show
a person like me how to set up, maintain, and test the Windows Vista
firewall ?
Thanks

MSN Toolbar included with Sun Java Security 'updates'
Beware of the *opt-out* behavior of Sun's java automatic updater. In the
US, at least, the MSN toolbar comes PREchecked [opt-out] and will
install along with purported java 'security' updates. Said 'security'
updates are presented as the latest version of Sun's java runtime.
Including crappy toolbars with security updates as an opt-out is a
REALLY dumb, shortsighted decision.
Shame on ...

Security Id's for "Program Files" folders?
I had a strange thing happen to me yesterday that got me to
investigating. One of my game programs, which I had just finished
playing with a couple hours before, refused to start telling me that I
did not have permission to start that program.
I went to the program files folder to look at the security tab. It was
true, my User Id (an Administrator) was not in the list of user names.

NETCOP-DISCLAIMER: yea, sorry I posted in .general first
Have run into a strange behavior and am trying to figure out what is
happening. If I reboot a home vista 64 system from my office over RDP, the
nVidia coprocessor (CUDA object) is no longer recognized and tasks that are
supposed to run on it will not start. I have to go home and cycle the
power. This does not happen if I am at home...

BitLocker - why 1500 MB partition?
Hi
Running Windows Vista x64 SP2 beta on a HP notebook.
I use BitLocker and have no problems with it. But I have yet to
discover the reason for the BitLocker drive have to bee (at least?)
1500 MB in size. Looking at the properties for the drive, I can see
that only about 50 MB is in use.
Reasons I have thought of could be:
- Windows Vista have to have at least 1500 MB on the boot part...

VISTA Policy - User's Folder
Hello
I've got a problem with VISTA policy.
In the VISTA user policy is the following Setting present: Remove My

Prevent users to save on Desktop
Hi,
I'm trying to prevent ordinary users to save files on the Desktop, but I
have some problem with Vista.
The users have roaming profiles.
I have made one startup script that creates a local folder C:\Desktop , and
set user rights to read and execute.
I have a logonscript that sets the User Shell Folder "Desktop" to C:\Desktop.
The redirection works, and for XP clients all seems ...

I am using windows Live Oncare. I also like to use other antispyware,
usually because I have found that only one program is usually not enough to

protection, just on demand scans. Does anyone know if this is truly a
problem or just Microsoft pouting about...

Installedcodec a malware?
McAfee has reported that a program I have had installed for some time is
malware. Specifically the program Installedcodec.exe from nirsoft is a
Trojan "New Malware.jj"
I haven't used it in some time but seemed to be OK when I did so. Anyone
know if this is a false positive by McAfee?
(I have already Googled for answer, no data but perhaps this is new).
