Network/Sharing Center -> properties question.
My HP laptop is connecting just fine using either it's wireless or wired method. However, I need to change the IP address (I use static addresses). When I open the Local Area Connection Status I see the usual Local Area Connection Properties when I click the Properties button. Clicking "Details" shows my current IP address. What happens next is really strange: I see the "Client for Micr...

Connect Vista to existing XP - 98 wired network
I am trying to connect a new laptop with Windows Vista to our existing home network currently utilizing a wired router. The XP and 98 computers currently work fine and both have file sharing options enabled and are able to "see" each other and connect to each other. All three (3) computers have the same network name, but I am having several problems connecting Vista to the network. ...

Vista Live Messenger Remote Assistance doesn't work
I upgraded to Vista Ultimate (clean install onto new hard drive) and cannot get remote assistance to work. When someone requests RA I respond "accept" - as I used to under XP - but nothing happens under Vista - New window does not open. If the requestor requests RA to my XP machine (which is connected to the same Linksys WRT54G router), RA works fine. Running WLM Version 2008 Build 8.5.1...

Vista won't save WPA passphrase
G'day. Looking for a little help here. The cable fella who came to install our connection, modem and wifi network set it up as WEP with a pretty unimpressive key, so I've changed it over to WPA and something a lot more random for all the obvious reasons. One tiny little fly in the ointment is that no matter what I do our Vista laptop keeps trying to use the old WEP key and I can't figure out how ...

Fails to detect LAN - Vista x64
I have just installed Vista x64. My problem is that it fails to detect local network. Other OS(XPx86 and VISTAx86) installed in the same box does not have any such problem. I also tried Windows 2008 x64 and saw the same problem so that the problem appears to have something to do with x64 bit OS. Could anyone have suggestion for possible remedy?...

Ethernet Vista-to-Vista
Hi all. I'm trying this message again because I haven't had a useful answer but, having had some answers, and it's weekend, the original is likely to be overlooked. I've had this problem for three weeks now, so it's becoming urgent. I have two PCs, each running Vista Business, which are connected by an Ethernet cable. I can see and navigate the Public folders in both directions but ...

Wireless Problems between Linksys WRT54G Router and Sony Vaio VGN-FE870E/H Laptop
I recently bought a new Sony Vaio VGN-FE870E/H Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium Edition installed. I've since had an issue connecting to wireless networks that use a Linksys WRT54G router. I use this router at home and two of my friends do also. Everytime I connect my laptop to these routers the router drops the Internet connection and resets itself and it does this every 4-5 mins. Howe...

I had been using Skype with no problems under Win XP. Recently, I upgraded to Vista via a clean installation i.e. completely reformatting my hard disk and installing Vista Home Premium. I then reinstalled Skype. To my surprise, when I clicked the Skype dial button, there was no dialing sound at all. I have checked that my microphone, speaker, settings are all switched on, and not mut...

Network Speed
Have a problem with moving files between Vista Ultimate on a dual core Toshiba laptop and Windows Home Server. To the best of my knowledge I have all the latest driver installed in both. Mixed Network XP & Vista
My main computer, the one that runs the network and the printer, runs on Vista. Two of my laptops are XP and one is Vista. A while back I had the GeekSquad come to configure my laptops to run on my Vista network. One is still working fine, but the other's harddrive crashed and now I'm back to square one. I do not want to call GeekSquad back to reconfigure my other laptop. However, my XP ...

Access denied: Is there a trick to connecting to an XP SP3 share from Vista?
I've tried everything I know and can find to solve this problem, but at this point I have to think this is either something too subtle or too obvious for me to see. Did something change in the XP SP3 security model relative to Vista? I have these machines: Vista SP1, XP SP2, XP SP3 (new, clean install, updated). I can connect Vista to shares on SP2 all day with no problem. I cann...

Printer sharing
I'm trying to share my printer with the other computers on my network. I have Vista Ultimate x64 and the other computers are all x86, Vista Home Prem., XP MCE, and I think Windows 2000 (my dad's) If it matters the printer is a Brother MFC 290c. So I found the printer sharing button where it asks for additional drivers. I think I got the right file for that, there's two in the x86 driver fol...

Using XP printer drivers from Vista
I am adding an HP desktop computer to my LAN, which has XP Home and Lanman (Win98) systems on it. The existing computers can print to the HP g85 by using the XP drivers (I am assuming, because it works). The g85 is only partially supported as an All-in-One device on Vista according to MS information, and HP does not have and will not provide Vista drivers for attachment to the Vista sy...
