Networking: Peer to Peer Vista to XP difficulties - 3 PCs
I am networking - peer to peer - 3 computers.
Toshiba Vista Home Premium notebook
Desktop Vista Business -
Desktop XP Pro - hosting printers and OMNi Account program. Also stores all
data and backup is done on this computer.
Vista notebook can see and read documents on all computers, prints and
accesses OMNi accounting program - does everthing I need it to do.

Network/Sharing Center -> properties question.
My HP laptop is connecting just fine using either it's wireless or wired
method. However, I need to change the IP address (I use static
addresses). When I open the Local Area Connection Status I see the
usual Local Area Connection Properties when I click the Properties
button. Clicking "Details" shows my current IP address.

Connect Vista to existing XP - 98 wired network
I am trying to connect a new laptop with Windows Vista to our existing home
network currently utilizing a wired router. The XP and 98 computers
currently work fine and both have file sharing options enabled and are able
to "see" each other and connect to each other. All three (3) computers have
the same network name, but I am having several problems connecting Vista to
the network.

Vista Live Messenger Remote Assistance doesn't work
I upgraded to Vista Ultimate (clean install onto new hard drive) and cannot
get remote assistance to work. When someone requests RA I respond "accept" -
as I used to under XP - but nothing happens under Vista - New window does not
open. If the requestor requests RA to my XP machine (which is connected to
the same Linksys WRT54G router), RA works fine. Running WLM Version 2008
Build 8.5.1...

Vista won't save WPA passphrase
G'day. Looking for a little help here. The cable fella who came to
install our connection, modem and wifi network set it up as WEP with a
pretty unimpressive key, so I've changed it over to WPA and something a
lot more random for all the obvious reasons. One tiny little fly in the
ointment is that no matter what I do our Vista laptop keeps trying to
use the old WEP key and I can't figure out how ...

Fails to detect LAN - Vista x64
I have just installed Vista x64. My problem is that it fails to detect
local network. Other OS(XPx86 and VISTAx86) installed in the same box
does not have any such problem. I also tried Windows 2008 x64 and saw
the same problem so that the problem appears to have something to do
with x64 bit OS. Could anyone have suggestion for possible remedy?...

Problem with Vista sharing network Name not found
I am operating a network with two Vista PC's. One stationary and one
portable. In addition an old XP PC is included.
The network has been working before, but now a strange condition exists.
My portable is operating perfectly well and can see the stationary Vista as
well as the XP.
My stationary PC does not show in the Network Window but can be seen as part
of the map of the network.

duplicate network icon???
i just upgraded to hp pavillion on my home network. When i clik on Network
icon i see TWO icons and one valid for the old desktop machine. One says
HP-Laptop and the other says HP-Laptop-OC-. Both contain the same directories
and files. Why is this? I find this confusing and would like to delete the
*-OC one but can't find the way to do this. Or is this normal for Vista SP1

Cannot copy files from another computer
Hi, for several months I have used Norton anti-virus because it came
with the computer, now the license expired and I uninstalled it. I
allways copied from and to a windows xp computer in my network, and now,
since i uninstalled norton, my Vista laptop doesn't allow me to copy
files from the xp computer. But it allows it in certain folders, just

Can't Print From Vista Laptop to Printer on XP Desktop
I have a Canon I960 connected via USB to a Desktop running XP. My Laptop
is running Vista Home Premium (64 bits) and connected to my Desktop via
a Linksys wireless router.
I can access files on the Desktop from my Laptop and access files on my
Laptop from my Desktop. I can print from my Desktop but cannot print

Ethernet Vista-to-Vista
Hi all.
I'm trying this message again because I haven't had a useful answer
but, having had some answers, and it's weekend, the original is likely
to be overlooked. I've had this problem for three weeks now, so it's

Wireless adaptor not in range
I am using Vista on my laptop and XP on my desktop. My laptop connects
through a Belkin 54g wireless router wchich is wired through my desktop. I

Couldnt get Skype to work on Vista
I had been using Skype with no problems under Win XP.
Recently, I upgraded to Vista via a clean installation i.e. completely
reformatting my hard disk and installing Vista Home Premium.

Network Speed
Have a problem with moving files between Vista Ultimate on a dual core
Toshiba laptop and Windows Home Server. To the best of my knowledge I have
all the latest driver installed in both. I am using a LinkSys (RealTec)

Mixed Network XP & Vista

One Vista PC cannot share with Vista, XP or Server 2003.
I have One Vista PC, one Vista notebook, one Windows Server 2003 PC and a
bunch of XP desktops and notebooks. All of the XP machines are SP3, the Vista

Access denied: Is there a trick to connecting to an XP SP3 share from Vista?
I've tried everything I know and can find to solve this problem, but at this
point I have to think this is either something too subtle or too obvious for
me to see.

Printer sharing
I'm trying to share my printer with the other computers on my network.
I have Vista Ultimate x64 and the other computers are all x86, Vista
Home Prem., XP MCE, and I think Windows 2000 (my dad's) If it matters
the printer is a Brother MFC 290c.

File Sharing between 32 bit and 64 bit o/s
Just posted this in the wrong thread and founf this one more appropriate

I have a laptop running vista premium 32 bit and a desktop running vista
ultimate 64 bit. I have tried all the usual avanues to get file sharing to
work but no joy.
I even paid Iyogi tech' support and they in form me it is because i'm

netsvcs uses high cpu when opening ICS
I have an Ethernet modem. I connect Internet with it and share my internet
connection with others by using wireless network. Sometimes when I create
Wireless network and others connect it, svchost.exe (netsvcs) uses %40 of cpu
(it is shown in Performance Monitor). When the others disconnect from
wireless network cpu usage becomes normal. How can I solve that. Should I buy

Using XP printer drivers from Vista
I am adding an HP desktop computer to my LAN, which has XP Home and Lanman
(Win98) systems on it. The existing computers can print to the HP g85 by
using the XP drivers (I am assuming, because it works). The g85 is only
partially supported as an All-in-One device on Vista according to MS
information, and HP does not have and will not provide Vista drivers for

Robocopy Wildcard for Directory paths??
I am trying to use RoboCopy to copy to a path like:
C:\Documents and Settings\*User*\Application Data
Where *User* would be a variable (the user logging on)
Is there a "Widcard" for this in Robocopy, or can anyone think of a way
to get the information into my target path?
Another utility?
