I have 2 PC's. A desktop running windows XP SP2 32-bit and a Laptop Toshiba,

So, the network shows up fine. Can access folders. But attempting to print

network workgroup name not accessible AGAIN
A couple of months ago, my workgroup name used for many years (let's call it
ABC) stopped working. I could access my networked computers by using their
paths \\mylaptop\downloads but not their network name. I rebooted but it did
not help.
So I changed the workgroup name to ABC2 and it worked for 2 months up to
today at 4 PM, when workgroup names were last used to share some files.

Sporadic connection
Hi,
I'm on Vista with a wireless connection. Up until recently, every once
in a while when I booted up I'd fail to get connected to the network -
rebooting would solve this most of the time.
Now, rebooting doesn't solve it, but at some random point during the
day (anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours), I will mysteriously
connect. This happens whether or not I'm actually at the compu...

Sharing between Vista & XP & XP
This is almost like another post with the problem, but with a strange
twist. I have resurrected an old Win2K machine and upgraded it to XP
Pro. When all the updating and whatnot was done, I created two folders
- one on each drive (C and D) called 'Public_C' and 'Public_D'.
I do this so I can pass items back and forth directly to storage drives
on different computers. My problem is th...

Aargh - accessing Vista share from XP??
I'm getting really frustrated trying to access a Vista share from XP. Now,
before you jump the gun with one of the standard suggestions, please read:
1) I CAN access a share on the XP Pro share from the Vista Home Premium machine.
2) I CAN access a Public share on Vista with no problem.
3) I CAN access a share on Vista that has Everyone permissions.
4) I CANNOT access an administrative shar...

Remote Assistance connection problem
I gave my sister a new computer with Vista Home Premium (sp1) over the
Thanksgiving weekend. She is not really into computers and uses it mostly
for email and internet. She has a cable isp (Cox). When I gave her the
machine I expected to be able to help her using Remote Assistance. The
opportunity to do so came up yesterday; I received her email invitation ok
but when I tried to resp...

Easy transfer cable
Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question - if not, would
someone advise me of the correct group to use?
I want to connect a new laptop with Vista to and older one with XP - I only
want to copy files between the two so that I can use the old laptop as a
form of backup - I don't want to connect the machines for any other reason.
I have tried a crossover cable setup but I find...

Vista to access XP share, different domains ??
Shouldn't I be able to access a share on XP machine from Vista, even
though the 2 computers are different domains? They are both on the

They can ping each other, but when I try to map drive from Vista as

\10.140.2.2\c$"
The XP machine has C$ shared, when I click Permissions button it says

Sometimes local network fileshares not detected
Sometimes my Vista machine shows absolutely nothing when I click on
Networks. I can see the Vista machine from my XP machine, but I cannot see
either the Vista or the XP from the Vista. Only cure I have found is to
reboot the Netgear (firewall) router, then reboot the Vista machine. Have
never been able to catchech it at the cusp, so have no idea why it gets in a
snit like this.

get the message "You do not have access to the folder xxxxxxx. See your

(user 1) to have access to.
I removed all inherited permissions, and made "user 1" the owner of the
folder.
