Define hardware change
Hi,
I have Vista Ultimate, I understand you can only load the OS on a certain
number of machines (Perhaps 2?) If I change/upgrade my hardware what
constitutes a "new" machine? I'd like to add another DVD burner & add more
memory. Would this constitute a significant enough of a change? Or even
upgradding the CPU?

xp 64bit on drive D
hi. i have two drives C and D, i have a vista 64bit on C and i tried to
install my 64bit xp to D , but when i put in the cd, and everyting is
loaded and its time to ask that do i want to format my drive, the blue

Vista Install Won't Recognize Hard Drives
I am having a very hard time installing Vista Home Premium to a new hard
drive -- I have tried on three different SATA hard drives. For example,
although my BIOS recognizes the drive (a 500 GB Maxtor), Vista's install
program says: "Windows is uanble to find a system volume that meets its
criteria for installation" and "This computer's hardware may not support

Can I use Vista on another computer after uninstalling?
I had Vista Home Premium full version bought from Best Buy on my home built
PC. I uninstalled it and went back to XP Pro. Can I use the Vista on another
machine and be able to activate it?

adobe dreamweaver won't start on vista home premium
It was first macromedia dreamweaver 8 that won't start on my vista,it
gets to 'initializing files' and the interface disappears.
I went further to adobe dreamweaver cs3,after a complete
installation,it would hang on getting to 'initializing files' whenever i
try to open it.
I will have to end process in task manager to stop it because it is no

Small Partition
I got my computer repaired and the man put windows vista on a partition of
8gb, I just updated windows and I am running out of space is there any way I
can increase the size of the partition. I do not have a har copy of vista to
re install only the installed version on the small partition.
Is there anyone who can offer some help please

Nero install rejected
I just installed Vista Home Premium to a newly-built PC. I installed a
couple of other programs from DVD with no problem. However, the installation
of Nero (from a DVD) failed. We eliminated the possibility of a bad disk by
using a disk which had already worked on another computer.
Installing other programs from DVD proves that the drive is operating

New System Install - black screen
I've just installed Vista onto a newly-built PC (a blank hard drive).
Everything proceeded smoothly, until the last reboot: The desktop flashed
momentarily on screen, then the screen went blank. I rebooted, without the
installation disk, and it booted to the desktop, but the screen immediately
went blank. Pressing CTRL-ALT-DELETE restores the screen display for me. It

Volume license key for 64 bit Vista?
Hi
I my school has 32 bit vista volume license. Is it possible to
use the same volume license keys to install 64 bit vista? I know that it
is possible for retail copies, but how about volume license?
Unfortunately our network administrator does not know the answer, so I

Windows Vista SP2 - Security Center and Anti Viruses
I can't find another board to post this on so i hope it's ok to post here. I
installeed Vista SP2 today via windows update. Every time I start my laptop,
the decurity Center alerts that anti virus is not running when in fact it is.
Updating, running scans does nothing to change the situation. I am using
Avira Pro the latest paid version.
Can anyone help me pls

Restore Computer using Windows Image Back-up
I have IBM notebook X300 with Windows Vista Business 32bit. I tried to
restore my computer using USB external where my Windows Image Back-up was
saved. I followed the Windows instruction by restrting the computer and
click F8. However, I don't see "Repair your computer" under "Advanced Boot
Option Menu". Can anyone help me to restore my computer? Thanks....

blank drive and recovery
Ok, My system does a little weird and I whant to do a REFORMAT, but I
only have a vista RECOVERY disk. Does this mean that, when i use my XP
disk to remove my partitions, that I can't install vista anymore?
Do I really nead a vista install disk for this or can I does my
recovery disk only look at my hardware, to make sure I'm not just
installing on a PC witch is not meant to get vista for free. ...

WDS | Install Vista with correct computer name

I'm trying to make a complete installation of Windows Vista SP1 with no user

applicationHost.config File not fully installed
I have a Vista Ultimate machine and I attempted to enable IIS 7 but the
applicationHost.config file was not fully copied during the install. I get
an error, of course, stating that the file is not well-formed XML. I
attempted to uninstall IIS with the idea of reinstalling it to correct the
problem. The uninstall failed and the problem remains.

SysPrep setup for an enduser machine
I build custom pc and after im all done with all the updates and
applications, i want to have the computer setup where when the end user
starts the pc they are presented with the mini setup screen. I have tried
sysprep but the user account that i created when i first installed Xp still
exists and AVG (licensed NOT FREE) antivirus prompts an error when the
computer boots after the
mini setup...

iTunes is causing a problem on vista
I download the software iTunes on my computer and while it is downloading, a
message saying "Windows Explorer has stopped working" and it just repeats
itself over and over. Deleting iTunes causes it to stop the message, but I
need the iTunes software so I can put music on my iPod. Any ideas on how I
can fix this problem?...

Dual boot Vista question
I have a PC with Vista Home Premium and have added a blank primary
partition.
I have 64 bit Ultimate DVD and want to install in new partition as dual
boot.
I cannot remember whether to boot from DVD or from Windows? Do not want to
disturb current 32 bit in C:\

Wndows update history (failed)
I just checked my Windows update history to see the updates it installed and
see two that failed to install.
Security update for Microsoft XLM core service 4.0 service pack 2 (KB936181)
AND
Security update for Microsoft Vista for x64-based systems (KB958644)
should I worry about these or is there a way to re-install these two

Microsoft 6to4 adapter problem and other problems
Hi I have gone into my device manager and found that under network adapters
Microsoft 6 to 4 adapter has a yellow triangle beside it how do I reinstall
this, also I had my computer crash today and the blue screen came up to tell
me that windows needs to shut down so there is no damage to the computer, I
think it said something about the 6 to 4 adapter but the blue screen

Vista SP2 Beta error code 0xc004f013
I get the SP to install at Stage 3 100% then it says failed, reverting
changes.
I tried no pagfefile, disabling soundcard, unplugging all USB items,
disable system restore, uninstall kb941649, disabled all non-M$ services
and all start-up items, via MSCONFIG and rebooted first.
Haven't found a fix yet.

Black scrn after Start from Shut down Mode
After Start from Shut down mode, I get a black scrn with white computer
jargon. At the bottom of the scrn is F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup
Utility. Pressing F1 gets me to the Vista Welcome scrn and everything
seems OK. Restart from Sleep mode is OK. How do I avoid this black scrn
from Start? What did I do wrong to get into this situation?
