Vista Home Basic restarts continuosly
Hi guys,
When i start my pc before login it shows a message "Windows is installing 3
updates, don't shutdown pc" when it finishes itself restart pc but again
same screen, i've tried with F8 and all menus but always the same screen an
i can't login, how can i fix it?

Lost Disc and Key
Hi,
I've lost my disc and key but urgently needed a reinstall of windows. I
wrote down the product ID which I thought would help me, and installed vista
(premium) from another disc. However, I have no key and so I now have no way
of activating it even though I possess a valid product ID.
Is there anything I can do or have I just got to spend money on another copy
of Vista?

MBR
On a dual boot (XP and Vista) 2drive set up, where is the MBR? is it on the
xp drive or the vista drive? Using vista bootloader....

KMS server & Client activation
Hello;
Can any one help me, I am working on a network of 26 computer with
vista business edtion and server with Windows 2003, I have activated the
KMS on the server. my questions
- how can I activate the 26 client computers from the KMS server?
please I need steps.
- Since KMS server take minimun of 25, do I have to activate them all
at the same time? or there are (e.g. time limit)?

MS-DOS shortcut not using assigned font
We have a desktop shortcut assigned to an old MS-DOS program (Computer
Associates AccPac Plus). The shortcut, which acts as an old PIF file,
allows the user to select the font and size to be used by the application in
the DOS window while it is executing in Windows Vista. Unfortunately, the
changes to the font are NOT reflected in the DOS window while the program is

vista activation question
My hard drive failed and I had to replace it. I reinstalled XP
professional with the proper product key and I activated it
successfully online. When I tried to reinstall my vista business
upgrade it asked for my product key and then I received an error
message telling me to install from my original operating system.
I deleted the product key and installed vista. It is now running but I

Using Technet Vista Enterprise Media with Volume Licence Key
I may be a little daft in thinking this, but, can you activate Vista
Enterprise installed using the Technet Media to a KMS server using a VLK, or
is there something within the installation preventing this?
In essence I suppose I'm asking if the Technet Media is in any way different
than what you would buy off the shelf?

Vista Installation Nightmares
Hi all ;)
This is my first post to s MSFT Community and it is driven by sheer
helplessness.
Like three weeks ago I build myself a new PC and bought Vista 32bit Home
Premium along with the components.
So, after assembling the system and RAM check (I used the Memory Test
available via the Vista DVD) and crossed my fingers and installed Vista.

What is the go with this security database error. I've renamed and
moved my computer and account in AD.

autologon in active Directory
Can the password just be inserted into DefaultPassword registry for it
to be recognised or does anything else need to happen?
I've been looking at the following tool:

VISTA licensing issues
guys major problem
i have 200 odd machines about to or already expired.
kms is working properly but the count is not increasing. it is at 8
right now
I used ghost to clone and image all those machines.
when reserachign why i found the MS article saying the CMID is
bacisally duplicated and not kms will not see all my machines.

Re-install Vista?
I'm running Vista Home Pro w/SP1 on my desktop and I get random freezes with
IE as well as other issues I've had with Windows Defender and just a general
more sluggish system than over a year ago when I loaded it new.
I'm wondering if there's a way to reinstall Vista over itself or would I
have to start over from a clean HD and reinstall?

reinstall vista on new HDD
hi there,
i just bought a new Hard drive as im running out of space on my current
hard drive. what i want to do is use my new HDD as the main one and
reinstall vista on it, an then use my current as an extra slave drive
for storage.

Multi install Vista
Hi,
will Vista allow me to install itself again on the same pc without any
isssues.
Before vista i had XP installed on the Primary and also extended partition
with a total of 3 XP choices to multi-boot.
This would alow me to split XP for different uses, ie. Games/Test/ etc. That
way i could avoid making backups for my gaming partition, which are becoming

How can I determine if an install version is 32bit or 64 bit?
I am interested in purchasing an upgrade version of Vista Home Premium.
However, the person selling the product doesn't know if it will install the
32 bit or the 64 bit version and I need the 64 bit version. The product is
Home Premium Upgrade and the number is "x12 99362 02" without the quotes.

Ci.dll error - startup repair not working
My computer restarted itself last night (think it was after an update)
when it restarted there was a black screen saying that windows could
not restart and a Ci.dll error.
I have tried using the dvd that came with my vista upgrade and have
run startup repair. I left it running overnight but it was still
running this morning. Thinking it had crashed, I did the process
again, but still not...

win vista silverlight (media)
today i downloaded silverlight updated version. it only tool few
minutes. after restart windows, there is no indication that silverlight
was ever installed..there is no visable icon in start menu nor status

powercut during installation of SP1
hi folks,
today i wanted to install SP1 on my Medion MD 96420, when during step
1 of 3 a powercut happend...:mad:. unfortunatly the baterie wasn´t in,
so the installation was interrupted.
after the power comes back, the notebook don´t power up any more,
neither on batteries, nor on AC...
any idea what has gone wrong, is the notebook now dead?

Unable to install Windows Vista SP1
I have been consistently unable to install Vista SP1. It goes through all
three phases and then simply fails, and reverts back. I am running Vista
home premium 32 bit. Initially got an error that led me to run repair.bat
and try the reinstall again last night, but no luck. Other updates have
installed successfully before and after SP1. ????...

Intel MatrixStorage vs. Vista 64?
I'm getting ready to build my next machine. I'm considering whether or not to
run two hard drives using Intel Matrix Storage. My basic thought was to run
2x the 300GB WD VelociRaptors but with two partitions per, say 100+100 RAID0
