Will it be possible to slipstream SP2?
Hi,
will it be possible to slipstream Vista SP2, like it was possible with
the win2000 and XP Service Packs?
As you guys know, it wasn't possible with Vista SP1....

Vista Backup Function
I'm using the backup function located in Control Panel. When I had a
hardware problem and had to reformat the hard drive, the backup was useless
because it said the computer was not set up for the backup. It also will
not work when the external drive is connected using an USB cable, but will

Copying segments from a dvd to computer
I have several family DVD's that were made from by Video from my digital
camrecorder tapes. I want to copy some segments off the DVD's to my computer
to make a family movie. Can I do this, and if so how?
I am using Vista home edition and want to use movie maker to create my
project. I think the DVD's are VOB files....

How to modify Vista Dialogs to look more like XP?
I notice that in the dialogs in Vista, there is an address bar at
the very top and a strip of "buttons" underneath that where the
text is to the right of the icons (Organize, Views, System
Properties, etc.)
I found out how to enable the standard FILE MENU "bar", but I
cannot seem to find out how to make that standard menu appear at
the Top of the dialog. That would be my first goal.

nvidia driver certification meaningless?
From Nvidia Release Notes for 180.48 WHQL:
"GeForce 8800 GTX: DreamScene–running the application results in a “Display
driver has stopped responding†error message. [295017]
"This is an issue with the OS."
I can confirm that running DreamScene on Vista Ult 64 SP1 with this driver
in SLI and another user application causes a hard crash (not even a blue

This is a HARDWARE problem
Have Acer Aspire M5100 deesktop pc, Windoes Vista Home premium, just over a
year old.
Was running normally, then total freeze - mouse/keyboard locked, only
option, power-off via mains switch.
Re-boot failed - didn't even get POST or BIOS screen. DVD drive spun (was a
non-system CD in it) but no hard disk activity - only sound was inside the
case, a tiny serie...

Cannot shrink partition, despite doing (I think) all the right thi
I wish to shrink my C drive (which has 50Gb free), in order to expand my
other partition.
Following advice on these and other forums, I did the following before
shrinking my C drive:
1. Disable hibernation.
2. Disable virtual memory and delete C:\pagefile.sys.
4. Delete and disable system restore points.
5. Disable indexing on the drive.
6. Check disk.

I have used this program to dial my land line phone, using a Lotus Smart
Center phonebook and later the dialer.exe phonebook, since windows 95. So
far, in Vista, I can only dial numbers within my area code. There is a place
to set up "dialing rules", but no matter how I do that, only the first digit
of the area code is dialed. There is a "help' button, but no help file

Importing scheduled tasks from XP
I was very surprised when I noticed that Vista cannot read and use the
scheduled tasks with .job extensions, those of windows xp. I made some
searches on google but it seems there is no way and no tool to translate
those .job tasks to the new format used in Vista.
Any suggestion ?
The problem arises from some database administration tools I use and that
probably are not completely compat...

Install 2 Video Cards on Vista, 1 Nvidia, 1 ATI?
I have 2 graphics cards in my computer, one a Nvidia 9600GT which goes to my
22 inch monitor, and an ATI X1550 which goes to a 15 inch monitor. I do this
so i can keep open programs like aim on my small monitor but still be able to
play games on the 22 inch without losing any performance. In XP all i had to

Corrupted DVD driver
My DVD driver on my Aser Vista laptop has got corrupted so I can't see my
DVD drive. I've tried going in to Safe mode then uninstalling the driver and
then allowing Vista to load the driver up on reboot. But it's still
corrupted. I can't find the right drivers- it's an HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N
ATA device. Not sure of the manufacturer but may be Hitachi.

Is there a way to customize toolbar in Windows Explorer on Vista ? What I
really want to add is the Delete icon (red 'X' in Windows XP). I know I

Windows Mail Sloooww
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is Vista or Windows Mail problem. Windows
Mail on my laptop is extremely slow. It will spend up to half a
minute "setting flags." The equivalent operation on my XP desktop
with Outlook Express takes less than a second.
I am running Vista Premium on a Compaq F572 (1.7GHz Athlon).

Disk Encryption with TrueCrypt and Backups
Most companies these days are using disk encryption on their laptops. I
am planning to use TrueCrypt for my laptop. The question I have now is

Format CDRW Failure: "Windows was unable to complete the format"
Running Vista Ultimate x64 w/ SP1 and I'm getting this error when attempting
to format a CDRW. I found a hotfix that was included in SP1 that was
supposed to fix this very problem, but obviously it doesn't. I couldn't find

Whats that program's name
Someone posted something about a program that scans the vista files looking
for corruption of system files. Anyone know what that might be? I have been
all through the previous posts but cannot find it.
All of a sudden today I cannot read or write to my CD drive. About all it
does is eject under software control. I am thinking it's a bad driver.
