Windows Vista
I find that the people posting here have not explored Windows Vista. It is a
better OS than
Windows XP. Windows 7 may be even better. I suggest that before you moan,
groan and
complain that you thoroughly explore Windows Vista before you issue
judgmental posts.

explorer.exe crashes
Transferring a lot of large image files from one location to another
will often cause explorer.exe to crash.
Is there a fix?

Noticeable lag when doing anything on the desktop
I was forced to switch to Vista when my last laptop was stolen, and
the only quick replacement I could lay my hands on was a Vista
machine. Joy.
Anyway-- my desktop lags. If I'm copying anything onto it, deleting
files-- even just dragging files.
When I try to open a context menu for something on my desktop-- it
reacts fine. But if I click 'delete,' the entire desktop locks up for

Batch script not waiting for process to end in Vista
Hey Guys/Gals,
Ok.. I'm writing a basic script which should not be too hard but I'm
getting crippled by the old "start /wait ...." command which does not
appear to work in Vista (not fully anyway).
So I'm attempting to start several virtual machines which in turn run a
batch file but they must be run independently (as opposed to
simultaneously for licensing reasons). I'm using VPC 2007 and have...

Windows Update error
I have a Windows Update file for Media Center (KB955519), which doesn't seem
to download, or install. As it tries to download it hangs and gives me the
error 80240016. The update was published 10/14/08. I haven't been able to
get any other updates since that time. It just tells me that the media
center update is available every time I boot up and when I try to grab it it
stops.

windows mobile device centre error
Good Morning,
I have a pocket pc running pocket pc 2003 premium.
When i connect it to windows vista to have it syncronised, i am recieving a
big red X in windows mobile device centre.

I'd like to change the layout of the IE7 GUI
IE7 has a different interface than I am used to, and it is
causing me a bit of confusion.
So, I've been trying to find ways to make it look and work more
like IE 6's interface. So far though, the only thing I have been
able to find is how to have the Address Bar appear below the File
Menu Bar. That is a helpful thing and I'm glad that I can do
that, but I'd like to do some more.

No more hibernation in Vista like in XP?
From the Windows Help, it says hibernation is upgraded to Hybrid Sleep in
Power Management setting, but i cant see any setting that allows me to turn
off my PC and unplug the socket.

Mobile Device Cnter and activesync
I have connected my Vista pc to my mobile device and get an error message
wich I cannot understand when I click on the synchronise content button on
Mobile Device Center. "ActiveSync encountered a problem on the desktop." It
seems a bit vague. Can anyone explain it or point me in the right direction?

Aero disappeared!
I have had a bunch of problems ever since SP1 appeared and have been in
constant contact with MS support. In fact, I just emailed him with my
latest unhappy discovery, but it will take him several days to reply, so I

Changinf Folder Views
The option to assign a particular view to a folder doesn't seem to stick.
I have some folders set to 'List', others to 'Details' and others to
'Extra Large Icons' but, from time-to-time, and without any intervention
from myself, they change to alternative settings. Is this a 'feature',
or can it be fixed?

Windows Vista home basic
Just wondering; I've just added a 2 GB RAM stick to my system. Is that the
cause of the colour change to my desktop? Task bar is now a silver/grey, not
black as before. Not to mention I've never noticed my close, minimize, and
maximize buttons to be "glowing" until now. I have also added the "GoLive2
Stix" recently as well, although I'm not sure that's what caused the change.

New Folder icon missing

Multiple print feature in vista
I cannot select multiple word files and right click print. I only get a

Don't Know the password...

Copy Recovery Partition
I have a new Lenovo Y410 notebook. It came with licensed Vista Home Premium
pre-installed. The recovery partition is located in a hidden drive E: with
about 13 GB.
I would like to make an exact copy of this recovery partition on a DVD. It
seems like an impossible task as Drive E: doesn't even show in Windows
Explorer. Disk Management says it is EISA formatted.
