Login error
When I try to log in with the Ethernet cable connected I receive an error
message which reads; 'Your logon has been disabled. Please contact your
system administrator.' But if I disconnect the cable it logs in just fine. I

How to tell vista to automatically detect available updates?
My Vista box shows a (at least to me) somewhat irritating behavior:
When I open Control Panel => Windows Update the dialog appearing at the
top always greets me with "Your Windows is up to date". It does so,
without even checking for new updates.
Only if I manually trigger "Check for updates" it goes off and actually
searches the server for new updates (and e.g. this morning it brough...

Domain Password Expiration Notice
Does Vista offer the the same ability as XP when a user's domain password is
about to expire? All I have noticed is the balloon popup but no pop up
window stating the password will expire in x days and asking the user if they
want to change it. I let my password expire and after my machine locked due
to inactivity I could no longer log back on without changing my password on
the DC fir...

I get the following error

Use built-in administrator account or create new one?
If I understand it correctly, for security reasons it's best to have a
separate administrator account and a standard user account, even on one-user
PCs (as in my case). However, which of the following two is the better option:
1. Enable the built-in administrator account and "downgrade" the account
that was created when Vista was installed to that of a standard user;
2. Continue using ...

Strange behaviour!
I have 3 computers:
(A) XP Pro SP3
(B) XP Pro SP3
(C) Vista HP SP1
Connecting (C) with (A) by Ethernet cable everything works, while with (B)
there's something wrong, that is:
- (A) can see/ping/access shared folders and use shared Internet connection
of (C), and vice versa: this is good
- (B) can access shared folders of (C) but if I try vice versa, that is (C)
accesses shar...

Are Windows Vista Accounts and Passwords Safe?
I was told by some of my friends that the password login system in Windows
Vista is not secure and that anyone could hack in and take remote control of
my PC. Is this true? They also told me that this is impossible in this new
product they call Linux or something. These guys have a web site at
www.lobby4linux.com. I'm thinking about using Vista but I'm not sure....
