Backup and Restore Center: Error Restoring (0x8100001A)
I am unable to restore files backed-up via Backup and Restore Center, "Backup
Files". I backed up all possible files from my old Vista installation (not
knowing it wouldn't include executables--there goes all my archived setup
files for purchases programs, but that's another story) to an external USB
hard drive. The files were verified at backup.
I was able to restore these files to a...

Parental Controls - "rating service unavailable"
Hi all
I’m having a problem with the Parental Controls in Vista blocking all
websites on my kids accounts.
Every time they try to go to a website (such as www.amazon.com), IE7 or FF
wait for ages and then comes back with a standard Parental Control Blocked
screen; but with “rating service unavailable†as the reason for the block.
What is going on?

runas.exe - basic concept
Hi,
I'm running Vista Ultimate 64. I am trying to leverage some of the
power of group permissions by setting up a directory that only a certain
group can modify (for a Visual Source Safe code repository). The problem
is: when I run Visual Source Safe, it doesn't inherit my group privileges
and therefore cannot access the database. I am looking into runas.exe.
That would accompl...

Offline Files Synchronization Errors (Vista Sync Center)
Hi,
This has got me stumped. My users' home folders are stored on a NetApp filer

offline. On the filer, oplocks has been set to "on". When a user syncs his
offline files from his Windows Vista Enterprise computer, the "view sync
results" window displays a lot of errors (Details: "The process cannot access

Even the hidden admin account won't work
I had my VIsta Home Premium system freeze on me about a week ago so I
had no choice but to switch off to reboot.
So far so good, everything seemed fine. Then I got some very
unexpected results from a piece of trading software and have
discovered that:
a) I can't access User Account Control and many other admin tasks
b) activating the hidden admin account hasn't helped - I am still

Redirect "Documents" via GPO
Been searching for this unsuccessfully. We are merging (2) domains, and
within this process of moving our domain into the other we are trying to
figure out how to change the "Documents" path via GPO.
In the past 6 months we've migrated about 20 users to Vista. We've
found that the Documents folder is a bit picky in that when we redirect
it... have the target folder named Documents... or Vista ...
