Logon with a CAC Reader?
I recently purchased a Smart Card Reader. I am using Vista Business. I wanted
to know if anyone knows if I can require a registered ID to be inserted, and
then a password to logon to windows? I am using NetSign CAC Version
4.2.0.1.155 to register and control settings for my CAC Card. I do not see
any option to force windows to require a card to logon, but if I pull the
card out, it immed...

about MS-IME in zh-cn Vista
under vista, i'm setting punctuation symbol to SBC case, but, i'm restart
computer or close programm, the setting will resume to DBC case.

admin error
I am currently running vista with only one account. in the add/change users
it shows up as admin. yet when i go to instal punk buster i get this:

Strange User Account
I have discovered a User Account on my system that I did not set up. The
User Accounts screen displays the following:
ASP.NET Machine Account
Standard User
Password Protected
Note that this account does not show up on my "Welcome" screen when I boot
my system.
Can someone tell mewhat this account is, where it came from and whether or
not I should delete it?

sync center icon cannot be removed
sync center icon cannot be removed from the system tray. I am not using the
feature anymore. I have disabled make available offline, still will not go
away. Any ideas appreciated....

Activation hyperlinks not work
I spent about 10 hours on the phone with Microsoft trying to activate Vista
Business MAK but without success. The problem is that the hyperlinks for the
activation keys do not work. Any suggestions? At first Vista indicated that I
had 3 days to activate. After that ran out, it now says that I have 27 days
to activate but the hyperlinks do not work....

The blank icon above the classic logon...
In classic Vista logon screen, above the username/password input, there's an
empty box where a picture/image is suppose to go, any idea how to set an

Remember last user logged on
I have Vista Business. This is a personal machine, so there is no domain
controller or anything else enforcing policies. In the local security
policy, under Local Policies / Security Options, I have the following:
Interactive Logon: Do not display last user name = Disabled
Interactive Logon: Do not require CTRL + ALT + DEL = Disabled
So I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to login. However...

How to hide the start menu lock button?
Who knows? And the "save session" button as well. I know in XP and Window
2000 we can edit the registry key in POLICIES\Explorer, but it seems not

Event log serice cannot be started
A major problem - in spite of expert advice I canot start the event viewer
service, so I cannot access the event log, nor can I update Microsoft Office
2007 because of it, nor can I do a full PC backup to an expernal hard drive
althoug it allows me to back up files there. I have been advised to do a
clean re-install of Vista Ultimate. Does anyone have experience of this

Permission Denied
I've just upgraded to Vista and, at first glance, am very pleased save for a
few niggles. Most importantly, however, Outlook will no longer archive
folders because, it says, I don't have the permission required. Needless to
say I cannot access the archive folder either which is very bad news. Nor do
I, apparently, have access to the various folders along the path to check the
properties ...

Vista Business reverts to default username at net logon
Attempting to log onto a LAN with my username and password, logon fails and
the next logon window shown has a bogus username assigned by Vista:
[Computername]\[Username], where [Computername] is the name of the local
computer I am using to log in from. My server will only answer to
[Username]. Network type is set to "Private".
How do I turn off this default?...

Can anyone help please? I upgraded from XP Professional to Vista Business.
When I originally installed XP I set up a personal account for myself instead
of Administrator(I am sole user of the computer and still am). Is there
anyway I can import the programs and settings from my personal named account

Use Standard account, even if you're the only user?
If you're the only user, do you create a standard account to use for saving
files and such, and use Administrator account only for changing settings and
loading programs? When I first started my new computer, it created an
Administrator account, I added a password, but when I tried to load drivers,
I kept getting a message that I didn't have permission. HP Support had me
delete password...

User Account Setup 101
Re: "Reserved Account" when setting language preferences. I configured the
keyboard for two languages in the admin acct then saved the settings to the
"Reserved Account". Created a new user acct and the language bar is as
configured in admin.
There must be much more that the admin could configure as default
preferences (beyond just language settings). I am looking for suggestions
...

Registry Editing / Permission Denied even "run as administrator"
I'm having a problem updating the drivers to my Saitek X52. Apparently old
drivers from XP do not properly uninstall and I have to manually clean out
the registry because the new drivers tell me to plug in the jostick to
