Updates Fail With Folder Redirection
We are a Novell shop running XP Pro SP2 clients and WSUS 3. We direct
our My Documents and Favorites folders to a mapped drive so that users
can access their data regardless of machine. When a standand user
receives an MSI based patch via Automatic Updates/WSUS, the update
will fail because the System account cannot see mapped drives. The

WSUS Not Updating
Some computers are not being updated via WSUS, others not reported yet and
others are reporting they have been updated within the last couple of weeks.
I even deleted the computers from WSUS and added them back and still have the
same problem. How can I get all of my computers to be updated?

WSUS server stop getting updates from Microsoft
I have not made any change to the server. All of a sudden, the server

SBS 2003 Newly created accounts unable to receive external email
Hey Gang,
I need help with an SBS 2003 server, Exch SP2, SBSSP1, 2003 SP2 all applied.

SBS2003 w/WSS3.0 Upgrade to MOSS

I've only done casual looking at this point on this subject.

Reporting: Which computers have not received the udpate?
Until we hire a new Windows Server Administrator, I'm temporarily approving
updates on our WSUS 3.0 SP1 server, so this may seem like a really basic
question. Our last admin showed me the basic operation of WSUS, but there is
information I cannot find.
For any specific update, I can see the "Update Detailed Status Report" which
tells me "The update is needed by 37 computers". But how ...

Removed WSUS - Client's don't connect to MS
Hi Folks;
I had WSUS installed on the network and recently removed it. I had
previously configured the active directory on the domain controller to point
the domain clients to the WSUS machine by means of the WUA administrative
template.
I then deleted the Windows Update template thinking the network would then
go back to getting it's updates directly from Microsoft - but they're not...

Needed updates not downloaded by the client
Hello,
just set up WSUS 3.0 SP1.
I have one client, for which I approved the Visio 2003 SP3 patch,
which shows this upate as needed, but does not download it.
No error shown on the WSUS (status of the client for this patch is a
normal "approved for install - not installed", just like it still has
to download it, but it is stuck like this since 2 days), and no errors

Products differ among servers
I'm running WSUS 3.1.6001.65 on four different servers.
Two of them have similar products available but the other two are different.
An example is two of them show under Products that I can check a box to
select Works\Works 8 or Zune\Zune Software. However on the other two
servers, neither of those choices appear under Products.

Viewing Deadlines?
Is there an easy way to get view all the deadlines set for updates by
group?
I can't see any way to see deadlines this other than opening each
approved update one at a time....

What Version of WSUS Do I Have?
My MMC snap-ins indicate 3.0 SP1 in their shortcut names.
But I'm thinking I only have 3.0 running on the server. Is there a way to
tell for sure? When I go to Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs, WSUS 3.0
is listed. Doesn't say anything about SP1.

Trigger /resetauthorization through API
Hi,
I was wondering if someone could help me. You can trigger a
resetauthorization by executing the following command "wuauclt.exe
/resetauthorization /detectnow" but how can I do that "through" the API? For

WSUS Reporting
I must be doing something wrong. I authorized an update for installation
last night, and now I'd like to see if it worked.
I tried running "Computer Detailed Status" report for the computer group I
authorized the patch for, and filtered for both "installed" and "needed."
When the report runs, it generates a list of 58 computers, each with about 4
pages of updates. Do I really have to...

Can the 3 shares that WSUS creates be hidden?
I installed WSUS 3.1 on our print server, and noticed the 3 visible shares
that it creates called UpdateServicesPackages, WSUSContent, and WSUSTemp.
I've removed those shares, then recreated them with a $ to hide them, and
have not noticed any strange behavior so far. Nothing weird in Event Viewer,
and although I am just starting to test the server and only have 2 clients
reporting so ...

wuauclt
How is this supposed to work? When I type wuauclt from a command line,
nothing happens, it just takes me right back to the C:\ prompt.
Have also tried wuauclt /detectnow and wuauclt /?. Nothing happens.
I'm running XP Pro sp2.

WSUS Folder Sizes
I have 3 WSUS servers a master and two replica's.
All are identical HP ProLiant DL320 G5 hardware (2 x 80Gb SCSI HDD mirrored,
Intel Xeon 2Ghz & 2Gb RAM)
Software and configuration are the same (Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard
Edition SP2.
The masters WSUS folder has swollen to over 50Gb whilst the replica's WSUS
folder is at 30Gb.

WSUS Updates Download to Client but do not Install, despite Policy
We have a Policy that sets the updates to install @ 4am every morning well
after they synchronize to the WSUS server. The problem is most of the

WSUS/WUA Version concern
I have WSUS Server running version 3.1.6001.65
AND I have clients with 7.1.6001.65 and 7.2.6001.784.
When I add a client to WSUS that has WUA 7.0.6000.381 it is being upgraded
to 7.1.6001.65. Ok I understand this.
The 7.2.6001.784 machines are either Vista and/or ran the newer WUA
installation.
My concerns/questions are:
If there is a newer Client version...shouldn't there be a newer...

Automatic Approval rules under WSUS 3.0
Under WSUS 3.0 can someone please clarify exactly how Automatic
Approvals rules work under WSUS please?
For example if I setup a rule to automatically accept security and
critical updates to a test group, will WSUS only approve updates that
are reported as needed, or will it "back track" and approve any and all
updates that could possible apply to that group in WSUS?...

Discrepancy in supersedence
My policy is generally to approve updates that have not been
superseded. I just discovered that I can add a supersedence icon to the view
in WSUS 3.0 SP1. As I was going down the list, I discovered that #951618 has
the icon for "supersedes another update" but under the details it says
"superseded by another update." It isn't one of those that falls under both

WSUS 3, error reporing in log
Hi,
We are using WSUS 3 server and one of the client not receiving update
notification but gives error

GWC Core makes it easier four you. You'll find a class library and a
very simple example. Enter a KB-Number, specify a target and wait a

Cleanup Synchronization list
Hello,
when trying to view the Synchronization folder in WSUS 3 SP1 it takes long
time to prepare the list. I can not find an option to remove older synchronization
reports. Maybe my eyes are too bad or doesn't it exist.
