WindowsUpdateAgent 3.0 install error
Try again..
Win 2K SP4, updating fine with 2.0 agent to a WSUS 2.0 SP1 server, except
for the CPU issue. Tried to update the client to 3.0 with the standalone
executable, get this error: (truncated to error in log) Any ideas? Thanks in

WSUS 3.0 MMC
I have upgraded fro WSUS 2 to 3.0. I would like to know how to show more
than 25 of xxxxxxx in the updates window in the management console. I have
upgraded from 2.0 and migrated the database, however in the all updates
window the title bar shows:
All Updates (25 of 3432 shown, 3431 total)
and I don't know how to show any more than the 25. Is there something I am
missing to show th...

how to speed up the Last Contact?
Hi all,
Is there anyway to speed up the time it takes to check a server for patches?
It looks like it checks once every 24 hours, is this true? how can I have it
check x number of times per day?

Upstream/Downstream Sync Problem
I have 2 functional WSUS 3 locations that cannot replicate between
themselves. I am not sure where to look for the problem. Does anyone know
the best log files to look for an indication of the problem? Thanks in

SSL through MMC?
Can anyone direct me on setting up WSUS 3 so I can use SSL through the MMC
for administration? I'm not worried about using SSL anywhere else at the
moment.
Before I upgraded from WSUS 2 I was using SSL through the web interface for
administration. After the upgrade to 3 I can not use SSL through the mmc....

Deleted Updates
All of the updates for WUS are stored on local hard drive. All of the
updates got deleted (don't ask!). I've tried manually syncing the WUS
server, but it says there are no updates to get. I'm trying to make it get
all of the updates we deleted. Any suggestions?...

client computers not shutting down
Some of our WSUS clients (Windows XP Pro) never shut down when the "install
updates and shut down" option is selected. When the user returns the next
day, their computer is stuck on "installing update 1 of..." The only way
they can gain access to their computer is to force a shut down and then turn
it back on. In checking these computers the updates did actually install,

WSUS 3.0
I installed WSUS 3.0 and setup a Laptop / Workstation and Server group. It
finds my machines and I can put them in the group I want (this is in a test
enviroment, only 2 machines). I see my laptop but there is a yellow
exclamation point. I double click on it to get into reports and when I click

WSUS 3.0 and 0x80004002
Hi,
one clients keeps getting that error.
What I tried:
net stop wuauserv
Deleted %windir%\softwaredistribution
proxycfg -u
net start wuauserv
Client already updated itself (7.0.6000.374).
What else can I do?

WSUS client not connecting
So this is my first time with working with WSUS. I have WSUS installed using
Port 8530 (port 80 has WAMP installed for web tests)
I installed WSUS 3.0 a few days ago on our W2K3 server. I opened Update
Services on the server (I also installed the client on my PC to view WSUS) I

Logon failures and 401 errors after upgrade from 2 to 3
Ever since I upgraded my WSUS from 2.0 to 3.0, my security event log
is filled with 534 errors:

WSUS 3.0 RC to RTM upgrade
Greetings. We're trying to install the RTM version of WSUS 3.0. Currently we
are running the RC version. Setup errors at the beginning of the install and
produces this message in the log:
CSqlConnection::Open: Failed to open SQL connection to instance..... etc. etc.
Has anyone encountered a similar problem? If so, is there a fix. Thanks.

WUS 3.0 Printing Reports
I have installed the Admin snap-in, mmc3 and the Report Viewer
Redistributable 2005 on a remote machine. I can connect to the WSUS server
without any problem but I am having a problem pritning reports. I have
several network printers installed but I can only print reports that are

Security Update for CAPICOM - BAD detection logic
It appears that the May "Security Update for CAPICOM" is being detected as
needed on Windows XP sp1 machines. I'm confused because I thought MS
discontinued release of updates for Windows XP sp1 (?). I believe the

WSUS3 - restart later not working
In the WSUS3 beta the restart later button ignored the timer and would
pop back up within about a minute of being clicked. Now with WSUS3 final
it pops back up after about 10 minutes. That's a nice improvement, but
it's not what I have it set for.
Anyone else run into this and/or know how to fix it? I need the restart
later to work for at least an hour or else my users become angry....

WindowsUpdate causing svchost.exe to consume 100% of the CPU
There is a fix for this: KB927891 at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927891/en-us . However, the fix implies that
Microsoft does not understand how bad this problem really is. The "Symptoms"
section section lists 2 symptoms, implying that both of them need to be in

WSUS 3 interface shortcomings
If I have an update that is not approved, why does it show as needed on
workstation? e.g. IE7 is not compatible with quite a number of our web based
applications, so we have it approved for only one group of testing
workstations and it is not approved for any other groups because we don't
want it to install. But this means that all the other ~5000 workstations show

Minimum Requirements when using remote SQL Database
Hello,
I am planning to upgrade to wsus 3.0. Within the deploymentguide the minimum
requirements for RAM is 2GB.
I can imagine that 2GB is needed when you install SQL Express on the same
server as wsus 3.0.
I called microsoft presales and the said that there is no difference when
using a local or remote database.

I need to reset the 'download this' status of all files
Windows Server 2003 (I'll point out that it's not SBS) had WSUS 2 installed.
Automatic approval was set to detect only and due to limited space on the
server only updates detected as required were approved. WSUS2 was also set
to only download approved updates. Server + 7 XP Pro ws's.

WSUS3 upgrade from WSUS v2?
Reviewed WSUSUTIL options and documentation. It appears the only upgrade
option is "in place" on the existing WSUS v2 box. We were hoping to migrate
approvals from the old system to a fresh box built with WSUS v3 RTM.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
