Vista - Updates are Available
I asked this question once before but did not get an accurate answer. I
have a GPO that sets the Windows Update features to download and install on a
schedule.
This worked great in the XP world where an administrator could log in
anytime prior to the scheduled "automatic" install time and see a balloon in
the system tray indictating that new updates were available. If the

Status Reporting
I have just installed WSUS 3.0. I only have 6 computers in my domain network
and have had the network up with WSUS for almost 24 hours. Still none of the
computers have reported their status.
Is there a way to get this done in a reasonable amount of time or to force
the reporting?

Computer status resets when new update approved
When I approve a new update(s) all the computers and groups show as no
status, until they report back in. Is there a way to prevent the computers
from changing their status? I just approved an update for the server group
and all groups and computers now show up as having changed to no status. As
of right now it will take a week plus for all the PCs to update their status....

Unable to install ver 3 or uninstall ver 2sp1
I attempted to do an upgrade to ver 3. The installation failed so I decided
to try to uninstall version 2 and start clean. The uninstall is failing
looking for the correct wssetup.msi. I have tried uninstalling version 2,
2wsp1 and 3 with no luck. Parts of version 2sp1 appear to be working but
not very well.
Is there a way to manually unstall wsus 2 sp1?

Approve Updates window
Anyone know why the Approve Updates window organizes the groups in such
a strange way? It's not alphabetical, it's not based on the order the
groups were created in. It doesn't make any sense....

Replica but pull from MU
How is it possible to set up WSUS 3 so it is a replica server (for ease of
administration), but to pull its updates directly from Microsoft, and have
the clients pull the updates from the server?
Reason: branch office internet connections are larger than the site-to-site
VPN connections, but the number of clients at the sites precludes the use of
Microsoft for the client updates....

Windows 2000 showing not yet reported

sql express 2005 and WSUS3
I have attempted to upgrade WSUS 2 to 3 and I want to use SQL express 2005
but the WSUS 3 indicates an incompatible DB. I have tried this on two servers
and on both this happens. Is SQL express just not compatible. I don't want to
use the windows internal DB - any one else got round this problem? ...

Use wsus 3.0 for reporting only
Hi,
I am planning on using wsus 3.0 for remediation of missing patches on
servers and I want to use wsus for reporting only. I have used wsus 2.0 for

I have one particular Computer Goup in WSUS v2 that I need to break up into
additional Computer Groups. Currently using the GPO Option and will soon go

Error Code: 8007f004
The error code 8007f004 means that the logged in user does not have
sufficient privilidges to install the updates.
Is there a way round this without having to walk round to every machine and
logging on as local admin??

IE7 Detect Only
Just noticed that WSUS is not detecting all IE7 installations. I had Declined
the update when it first came out but now have set it to Detect Only when I

Upgrading WSUS 2.0 replica servers to WSUS 3.0
We have five main autonomous WSUS 2.0 sp1 servers on Windows 2003 sp1
with WMSDE.
Each one of these servers sync with one main server that syncs with

I have found a lot of suggestions via Google, but nothing has helped me.
I have tried:
1. deleting WindowsUpdate.log
2. restarting WU service
3. wuauclt /resetauthorization /detecnow
4. remove station from WSUS
5. deleting some keys in regedit

WSUS 3.0
Does ANYBODY have ANY info as to the bug that is affecting the WSUS 3.0 mmc
snap-in. I have seen numerous threads regarding the inability of the console
to load after the upgrade of WSUS 2.0 but no answers or possible workarounds.

Running WSUS 3.0 with HP SIM 5.1 SP1
Hello,
I am currently running WSUS 2 on the same server as HP System Insight
Manager 4.2. Each one is running on a separate instance of MSDE 2000. I
want to upgrade to WSUS 3.0 and HP SIM 5.1 SP1, but I want to make sure that
Windows Internal Database and MSDE 2000 can co-exist on the same server
without any issues before I do this. Can anyone help me out on this one?

WSUS 2.0 SP1 Hangs
I have one server that didn't get SP1. My understanding is SP1 must be
installed manually and that it must be installed before you can install WSUS
3.0, correct? (I'd like to skip SP1 since it hung.)
What are the common caused for SP1 hanging?
