WSUS 3.0 SP1 Removal Failed-
I am trying to uninstall WSUS 3.0 SP1. However I keep getting: 'Setup not
completed'. The only error in the event logs is Event ID 11725.

wsus basic question
I just installed wsus and believe I have everything set correctly. If I go
to a workstation that is pointed at wsus and run live update in IE it still
goes to microsofts web site. Is this how it works or should that direct to
my wsus server? ...

Can WSUS 3.0 use a WSUS v2 upstream?
In an environment with 2 WSUS servers (two differnet sites). The main WSUS
server is WSUS v2 and the new server is WSUS v3.
I want the second WSUS server to obtain downloads and sync settings from the
main server (WSUS v2) which is the upstream server.
Will this work? I don't seem to be getting any syncronisation when I set it
up.
Any help would be appreciated.

WSUS client problem downloading updates
I have a WSUS Server 3.0 RTM. The clients are running WUA 3.0. I'm using
the Windows Update Agent API to check for updates on a WSUS server and
download the updates. The check for updates part works great. The problem
occurs when I try to download the updates. At that point the download fails
and I get the following error message in my windowsupdate.log file. KB955069

WSUS and Internet Usage
Hey Everyone,
I have an issue where all of my WSUS servers are communicating with what
appears to be Limelight content servers (cds216.lax.llnw.net,
cds771.lax.llnw.net, etc). This communication is happening during the day,
outside of my WSUS sync schedule and is using up 100% of my internet

WSUS 3 SP1 Error after running dcpromo
I installed WSUS 3 SP1 and it was working great. I promoted the server to be
an AD controller using dcpromo. After running dcpromo my WSUS stopped
working.

DMZ - Windows Update
Hello,
Could you tell me the best way to configure the windows update for servers
( windows 2003 ) in a DMZ ?
I know that's possible to use a server WUS on the domain but not very
usefull and I'm not sure that's very secure ( maybe with ssl)

i have http://serverA:8530 in my GPO and have checked my registry. the wsus
server is present in the proper registry location. default website (port 80)
is available for everyone.

Windows Server Update Services on a DC
Hi,
I keep getting the following errors on my DC even though WSUS is
working properly. I am running WSUS 3.0 on a Server 2003 Sp2 R2. Once
the errors appear, i need to reboot the server as the page file runs
out of memory. After the reboot the server works fine for a few days
and then the errors reappear. Any help would be appreciated

one client machine not detect xp sp3 from WSUS?
I have one test xpsp2 machine used to test Windows updates. I did a
manual installing of sp3 on this test xp machine. After that, I
uninstalled sp3 and it goes back to sp2. Now this machine can not detect
sp3 from WSUS. What happened?
Can someone advise on this?

do i need to use the port number in GPO?
wsus 3.0 sp1, windows 2k3 sp2
i have previously used wsus 2.x and used http://serverA (without any port
number) before.
now i have installed wsus 3.x on port 8530 and i'm accessing it from my
workstation thru serverA:8530. my question is in GPO, do i need to add this
port number making it http://serverA:8530 or the previous http://serverA
would suffice?

Auto Download and Install not working
My goal is to move client computers into an OU that differs from the
Default Domain Policy in regards to Auto Update. I want the new OU to
force the clients to auto download and install critical updates, the
default Domain Policy is to just notify clients that updates are
available.

WSUS - Installation
Hi,
I have 5 servers running on Windows 2008 and only one core server. I
have installed WSUS on Windows 2008 File Server which also a DHCP.
When I click on Unassigned Computer icon, there is no computer in the
list. How can I resolve this issue or can someone point me to any link
for this what configuration I need to look at?

Random Optional Updates Appear in WSUS In The Middle Of The Month
Why doesn't Microsoft just save these until the regular patch Tuesday
schedule instead of deploying them to WSUS at random times?
It's annoying and it throws off your reports unless you decline them
and then you have to remember to undecline them later if you want
them.
You can make the update synchronizations manual instead automatic

Lost Notification Balloon and Yellow Shield
There is a server that needs Windows updates. I can see that in the
WSUS console it says they have downloaded and are ready to be
installed. Going to that server's windowsupdates.log file shows many
updates detected and ready to install.
However, when I log into the the machine, there is no way to launch
the installation because the shield and balloon prompts are not
displayed.

All the WSUS docs refer to SQL Server 2005 SP1. Is WSUS 3.0 SP1 supported on
SQL Server 2008 on Windows Server 2008? I can't find a definitive answer and

Clients not Showing up in WSUS 3.0
I am running WSUS 3.0 and I have a problem with my clients not showing up. I
have read multiple posts about this issue and my pc's are imaged. So I have
been using the scripts that people created to get them to show up. Nothing
is working if I run the script the pc will show up and then it vanashes. If
anyone has any suggestions other than those scripts I would appreciate it.

WSUS Clients in 2 servers
we have 1 main WSUS server and 5 replica WSUS servers in branchs. we have set
up net masking and round robin, which is working, but the issue is the
clients are showing up in correct WSUS server according to subnet but also
they keep reappearing in the main server. I delete them out and a few days
later they show up again in the unassigned group again. doesd anyone have any
ideas on this...

WSUS 3 SP1 - Disk cleanup hangs
Just completed upgrading from WSUS 2 to WSUS 3 SP1 on an SBS2K3 R2 machine.
There were some initial sync issues which a reboot seems to have resolved.
I did read the deployment guide as well as the Tech Notes on installation on
SBS2K3 systems.
However, about 9 pm last evening, I selected the disk cleanup wizard. Things

Workstation gets updates but no record of machine reported in WSUS console
There is an XP machine that I know is communicating with WSUS because
it got all the updates and it shows communication logged in the local
