AU policy settings with WSUS
I have WSUS 3.0 installed with a test bed of 7 machines. Out of the 7, 2 are
reporting 100% complete and all others from 66% up. The client diag tool run
from the WSUS server (Win2003 server on Virtual Server 05) shows AU does not
have policy set and "UseWuServer is disabled" as FAIL.
Running the client diag from a client machines that reports 91% complete, I
receive all PASS except t...

WSUS-Windows Internal Database VS SQL Server 2005
Hi,
Can someone point out how many clients can the Windows Internal Database
that ships with WSUS server support? Can the Windows Internal Database
supports more than 10000 workstations or do we need to go for Microsoft SQL
Server 2005 (full-featured database)? How many WSUS servers will be
recommended to be installed to handle these workstations (10000)?
I've read the WSUS30Deployment...

WSUS 3 problems
I initially installed my replica servers with the Microsoft Internal Database
and found that I needed to move them to SQL 2005 so that we could manipulate
the databases - which is not a problem.
I followed the steps in the Operations Guide on Migrating the WSUS database
from MID to SQL 2005. Everything went as according to the directions.
I then tried to view the migrated servers' dat...

WSUS - Best place to install
Hi,
What is the best place to install a WSUS SERVER?
Also, I worked with someone that had a script that did something to
the clients because they were not registering on the WSUS console.
What do you do if the clients don't register and if it is a script,
can anyone help me out, new to Scripts :)
Thanks!

WSUS 3.0 Client Not Finding Updates
I had a WSUS 2.0 SP1 implementation at my site. The database on the server
was stored on our SAN. Our SAN crashed. I fixed our SAN, and rather than
restore the old database and try to recover, I removed WSUS 2.0 and
installed WSUS 3.0 from scratch. It configured up nicely, synchronizations
took place, updates were downloaded, clients reported their status, I moved
clients to the grou...

Wsus3 via WSUS2 "not needed".
Hi.
As announced, WSUS3 is available through WSUS as of today. However, it
shows as "not needed" on my WSUS server (Wsus 2.01 on Windows 2003R2
SP1).
Anybody else?
On a side-note. TOday I also approved the WSUS 2.01 SP1 Client Update.
After it installed itelf to my WSUS server via selfupdate (so not the
install into WSUS, but the real update of the WSUS client), all my

Question on upgrading to 3.0
I am currently running WSUS 2.0 using an external SQL 2000 server. I want to
upgrade to WSUS 3.0. We do not have a SQL 2005 server, so I assume I need to
go back to Internal database. What would be the best procedure for
upgrading. I want to use the same server, and was going to uninstall 2.0
first, but was not sure of the correct order to follow.
Any help would be appreciated!...

Managing downloads of updates to replica servers
Anyone,
Is there a way to manage the time frame that replica servers receive the
downloads of updates from the master server in an organization ? Except for
the synchronization schedule I can't see any other means. I mean it is kind
of crazy to think that a server will start replicating 20 gb worth of updates
to a replica across a WAN link during the middle of the day.
Thanks in adva...

An example is that we have approved .NEt 2 framework to go to desktop
machines but it is showing up as needed by every machine on the estate. Is
there a way for WSUS 3 to show updates as not applicable on the groups tha...

time of this morning so they are contacting the WSUS server. I'm not sure

WSUS 3.0 upgrade path from WSUS2.0SP1 with external SQL2000 DB
Hi guys
I have started looking at the possibility to upgrade our WSUS 2.0SP1 (Build
2.0.0.2620) installation to WSUS 3.0.
My current installation is running with a remote SQL 2000 database (running
on Windows 2003 Server SP1).
I am looking at two different upgrade paths (also because I have several
other DBs on my SQL 2000 server; like MOM 2005, HP SIM, Altiris, etc so not
sure if a...

Can't sync after WSUS 2.0 to 3.0 Upgrade
I have finally upgraded to WSUS 3.0 and basically have it going but it wont

via a Microsoft Proxy 2 box. I noted in the Readme that if you were using an
authenticating proxy (which it is) that you had to set the account password
even though it was brought over as part of the upgrade from WSUS 2.0. I have

WSUS 2.0 - 3.0 Migration (New Server)
Trying to bounce a question off you guys in something Im trying to plan out.
With the release of WSUS 3.0, we are looking to deploy that to a new server

Is there a way to migrate approvals from one database (WSUS 2.0) to a new
server database (WSUS 3.0)
Also, a detail to add, I believe we were a bit foolish in planning, but ou...
