Bandwith Calculation
Hi,
can anyone advise me how to calculate the time needed to deploy a patch to a
group of PCs. For example I want to deploy Windows XP service pack2
(WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe - 266 MB)to 1000 WinXP workstation.
How can I specify this patch to be deployed between a certain timeframe
(i.e. everyday from 8.00 p.m - 6.00 a.m).

PC names in WSUS 3 console
This isn't causing a problem but i'm curious.
3 PC's in the list of computers list the name as the full domain name so for
example steve.mydomain.local whereas the others just appear as steve.
Any reason why?...

Cannot connect to WSUS on default website
If I install WSUS 3 to the default website the installation is
successful but when the configuration wizard should run I get the
error
"An Error occurred when communicating with the server and this wizard
must be closed. You may restart the WSUS Server Configuration Wizard
from the options page in the WSUS 3.0 console".
I can start the console but when I try to add the server I get the

No reboot prompt for end users since KB936301 applied
We are not running WSUS 3.0 yet, but seems in our 2.0 SP1 environment
that the install of the AU client update 936301 onto the WSUS server
has stopped the restart prompt appearing for end users. I guess I
didn't thoroughly check 936301 first, but was not aware it would put
the new AU client into the /Selfupdate folder so existing clients
would get it at next contact. Had a couple of users ove...

replica server have more updates than master one
Hi,
if have a WSUS 3 Server and a WSUS 3 in replica mode.
Issue is that the replica server have more updates than the master one.
Every sync (replica from master) will cause that ,several updates that was
already declined on replia, are set back to unapproved.
But these updates are not existing on master server !!
So no way to decline them there.

reinstalling WSUS error 0x80070643
Hi all
I have problem with windows server 2003. And replace SAM, SECURITY, and
SOFTWARE files from c:\windows\repair folder to c:\windows\system32\config.
And server starts working fine as well as other software’s works fine. Before
server get problem WSUS is also working fine but after replacing SAM,
SECURITY, and SOFTWARE files WSUS doesn’t works.

WSUS and Memory
I have a WSUS setup on a Windows Server 2000 machine. Every 2 to 3 weeks or
so the process that is running the MSSQL$WSUS service starts to use alot of
memory. I am trying to find out why and if there is anthing to do to prevent
this from happening. The machines has over 2GB of memory and this
process/service is taking up almost 3/4 of it.

WSUS 2.0
Is there any setting, either a reg-hack or in a GPO, that will allow us to
set an alternate Microsoft update service location? We are looking to set
our mobile computers to look to our internal WSUS server for patches
regularly, and if it can't find the server, default out to Microsoft's update
site. Some of the antivirus products work this way so mobile users can get
signature updates...

2.0 to 3.0 Migration Question
Question(s)
While setting up for WSUS 3.0...
I had a WSUS 2.0 build that I wanted to keep in play (production) so I
built a second 2.0 box and synchronized it with my original 2.0 build.
I built it as a replica.
I then took the new 2.0 (replica) and upgraded it to 3.0.

Computers requesting nonexistent computer groups
Hello,
I have recently installed WSUS 3.0 in a very distributed university
environment and selected use GPO/Local security policy for group targeting.
On the main WSUS page I get a message that states:" Computers have requested
the following nonexistent computer groups: x,x,x,x,. Is there a way to

Updates need to be installed by an administrator?
Running WSUS 2.0 SP1, there are certain workstations (less than 10%) which
exist in a OU and has a WSUS group policy setting that require an
administrator to login and install the updates. When this happens the

newbie question
i installed the WSUS 3.0 on my 2003 server no problem. Downloaded all of the
windows update files that I wanted do - worked fine. however I cannot find
any instructions on how to configure my client machine (also 2003 server) to
connect to my server.
I found an article on how to change the registry -- but then what? Is there
an application that needs to be installed on the client?

Hide the Windows Update Icon
Hi all,
How can we stop the yellow Windows update icon from appearing in the system
tray when I login as a local admin?

Clients are not updating, but are checking in to the wsus 3 server
A while back we were using WSUS 2.0, and the updates were all going through
smoothly. One day our clients stopped updating, but continued to check into
the server. I haven't had a chance to check into the issue for a few months,
but I finally got around to upgrading to WSUS 3.0. The clients are still
checking in, but are not updating.

Viewing failed update details
On WSUS 2.0 one of the great features was being able to view a failed update
on a computer by clicking the computer, and then clicking any update that
showed failed. I can't seem to find how to do this on WSUS 3.0. So my
question is how do I view which update failed on a computer, and get an error
code on why it failed through the WSUS 3.0 Admin Console? Thanks!...

Hi, I have 12 PCs, XP and 2K, getting this error. I've tried solutions in
910337, but the PCs in question all fail to start System Event Notification

Wsus 3.0 upgradation
we are planning to upgrade Wsus 2.0 to Wsus 3.0 ... As this is my first

Upgrade WSUS Build 2.0.0.2620 to WSUS 3.0
I hope this has not been addressed but I would like to upgrade to 3.0 from
my current build.

WSUS _ Best Server to install on?
Hi,
I don't have a dedicated server, but what is the best place to install this
on? I have read yes/no on doing it on DC's, and I also want to make sure I
can upgrade to version 3 when it is ready.
Also, one person I ran into had a script that did something on client
startup to clear out the windows update stuff on the client because they were
not registering on the client.

Cannot backup server with Backup Exec after WSUS 3.0 installation
I have found information on this issue on several sites, but no fix yet.
Problem is as follows:
After installation of WSUS 3.0 on server, Backup Exec 10.0 can no longer
back up the server. If the SQL Server VSS Writer service is stopped, Backup
Exec can then back the server up. Obviously this is not a suitable solution.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this one?
