Updating Update Services
After a *lot* of problems we have finally got our SBS Premium 2003 R2
back to running "Microsoft Windows Server Update Services Service Pack
1" (or that's what Add or Remove Programs says we are running!)
One of the Updates Waiting for Review is "Windows Server Update
Services 3.0 SP1" and I seem to remember the original problem that
took us back to having to rebuild also sorts of things on...

Adding clients
whether using GP or going locally on the machine to point to mu SUS server,
machines are not getting connected . . . I have several that are being
managed and alerted to updates, just cant add any more using client side
targeting to specific groups . . .
any ideas? ...

A New PC with Vista Business
WSUS version 3 on Windows Server R2 2003 SP2.
I've been supporting Windows XP Pro all this time. Today, I have a new PC
that runs Vista Business (English version). This is the first Vista box in
our company.

Every client visible on WSUS 3.0 server, but no clients updating
I have spent hours looking for a solution to my problem to no avail. I hope
someone here can help me!
I have a new install of WSUS 3.0 on Win2k3 server that I had to move because
the old server crashed. I changed the GPO for all my clients to the new

Computers not showing in WSUS console
Hi.
Some of the computers (XP and W2K3) on my LAN doesn't show in my WSUS 3.0
SP1 console.
If I run the WSUS client diag tool, it all seems to be OK, and the computers
do get updates from my WSUS server - they just don't appear in the console.
Anyone else tried that? And what did you do about it?

100 PC's not in WSUS (Batch File included)
I currently have 100 missing workstations in WSUS. I have a script that I
have been running manually on workstations that are not in WSUS (. I want to
do this automatically. Does anyone have any suggestions on making the batch
file silent so I can run it by GPO?

DC Automatic Updates Service will not start.
I have a DC that keeps losing the Automatic Updates Service. I reinstall it
using this command line: rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection
DefaultInstall 132 %systemroot%\inf\au.inf
Not that it is reinstalled it will not start. It gives me the following error:

Server 2008 for first WSUS?
I have vanilla VM's of Server 2008 and Server 2003 ready to use for WSUS.
Can someone tell me the reasons I might chose one over the others for my
WSUS host at my datacenter.
Note: My three remote locations are running Server 2003 as DC/File/Print but
not sure I would even need them to have WSUS, in fact I'd rather not.

WSUS3.0 Downstream replica WSUS servers showing Unapproved updates
Greetings,
I'm on a recently upgraded WSUS 3.0 with 1 main server and 3 replica
downstream servers. My replica servers are showing updates with an Unapproved
status, but my upstream server doesn't have any Unapproved updates.

KB956931 Breaks SQL2k5 RS printing ActiveX
We have discovered installing this latest ActiveX killbits update
results in the error message, "Unable to load client print control,"
when a user clicks the print button inside of a report generated by SQL
2005 Reporting Services.
We're an IE7/XP Pro SP3 shop; anyone else seeing this?

Windows Update Agent V3 (7.2.6001.784) error 0x800704dd
We are having problems using the Windows Update Agent V3
(7.2.6001.784) when we use the agent when nobody is logged on!
We get the error 0x800704dd (-2147023651)
while searching for patches. The problem occures almost immediately.
We didn't have this problem in earlier builds of the Windows Update
Agent V3. (for instance 7.0.6000.374)
We can reproduce this problem using psexec.exe and the MB...

U.S. seeing only18 at a time
I have a new installation of WSUS 3.0 on a 2003 server. In the Update
Services console, I never see more than 18 computers reporting, and it's
evident that when a new one is detected, one is dropped. Is this by design?
I can't see any reference to suggest that.
Also, the clients are being directed via Group Policy. It seems that
running gpupdate /force isn't enough to a client to app...

WSUS 2.0 - Computers not Showing
Hi Folks;
I'm running WSUS 2.0 (as we only have Windows 2000 Servers). We recently
installed it and on the Computers page we're only seeing the domain
controller listed.
Shouldn't we be seeing all the computers on the LAN ?

Update Revisions
I'm using WSUS version 3.0.6000.374 on Windows Server 2003 R2 with SP2.
I just noticed that there are 2 newer revisions for Windows XP Service Pack
3. The revision history shows 3 different versions as follows:

Ok i can download the file now but all my pc report that there is no new

Update from WSUS 2 failed and is now stuck in limbo
I have successfully updated WSUS 2 to 3 on several servers, but on one server
I got an error during the installation saying that the install had failed. It
looks like the install managed to partly uninstall WSUS 2, then failed, and
subsequent attempts to run the install fail when it tries to uninstall a
product that is no longer there. Add/Remove programs in Control Panel still

One client with sync errors
Hi, I'm using WSUS 3.1.6001.65 on Windows 2003 Server, on a W2K3 AD
domain. One of my clients (XP Pro) doesn't want to populate in my WSUS
computer list. It gives soap, cookie, and sync errors. Its AU agent
files are current, and its automatic updates registry settings are
correct (via GP).

Serious problem with WSUS server----Assist ASAP
Hi,
We are running WSUS 3.0 SP1 with SQL Server 2005. We currently have 1900
clients. We notice that our WSUS server is deploying patches very slowly.
Also, sporatically, we notice that the WSUS console doesn't come up properly.
What can we do to troubleshoot/fix this? I can send you any log files you

Clients erroring out when contacting WSUS Server -- they just happen to be syprepped VHDs.
We work with a sysprepped image of a standard workstation for testing in our
environment. The image is a MS Virtual Machine and it is built somewhat
small but large enough to handle a shortterm testing scenario. Although, I
don't feel like it is a virtualization issue.

w3wp.exe 100% CPU utilization after upgrade from WSUS 2.0
I upgraded a Windows Server 2003 SP2 server running WSUS 2.0 to WSUS 3.0
yesterday. I have SQL 2005 Express running on the server and that was in use
by WSUS 2. The install completed, but the server seemed hung. Opening the
MMC console failed. It timed out. Looking deeper I found that W3WP.exe was

MS08-067 KB958644 MESSAGING/BLACKBERRY ISSUES
After applying the above patch we have issues where we now have 'Send
As' and 'Receive As' checked as Denied for the Blackberry Service on our
