Can WSUS be moved to a new server?
We are succesfully using WSUS 3.0 beta2. The server where this resides is
being retired. Is there some way to "move" WSUS to a new server while
maintaining all of the settings, downloaded updates, reports etc. etc?
Thanks for your help,
Jim...

Deadline Feature Question
We are using WSUS 2.0 SP1. I have several groups called workstations-1,
workstations-2, and workstations-3. I want to approve all patches for
install, but have them installed at different times- on a specific date to
be clear. We have a group policy that says to install patches at 3am on
Sunday. I would like to use the deadline feature to choose the specific
Sunday date that each grou...

a couple basic questions...
Approving updates:
The process of approving updates is slow and tedious. It may be that my
WSUS server is a bit old, but I'd like to be able to auto accept all updates
for a test group and then approve them all in bulk for the production group.
Is that possible or do I have to manually approve each update separately?
Related to that question is what happens if I approve an unnecessary o...

Some machines not using group policy
I am running WSUS in a Windows 2003 AD environment. I have defined a group
policy that points all domain machines to the internal WSUS server rather
than the default Microsoft server. Most machines have been working well with
this policy, but I've found a handful that do not seem to accept the policy.
I get no errors when I run 'gpupdate /force', but the 'Automatic Update'
options in ...

WSUS 3 RC1 Embedded SQL upgrade to full SQL
I would like to install the full SQL Enterprise Edition on the current WSUS
3.0 RC1 server which has the embedded SQL. I need to do this to move my
Dell OpenManage IT Assistant program to a new server. IT Assistant needs
the full SQL server for it's use.
Will the install merely upgrade the current WSUS DB and use it? Are there
any implications or other issues that I haven't thought o...

KB927978
I use WSUS. I had/have a corrupt security update(KB927978). It says that it
installs, but at the next restart, it installs it again every time. What I
used to do to get around this was download the update manually, but now when
I try to do that, it doesn't download a new update, it uses the cached
version. Even if I move the computer out of the policy and turn off
automatic updates, I can't g...

Default Client Behavior with offline WSUS
If the WSUS is offline or unavailble, will Automatic Update on the clients
default back to the Micrsoft site?
I ask this because IE7 "appeared" on one of our 2003 servers. My co-worker
thinks that WSUS might be have automatically installed it. But I have WSUS
set to "detect only" for servers, and the IE7 package isn't even synced on
our server (by design). So I'm positive it didn't pull the...

WSUS 3.0 is not pulling in updates
Hello all
With the constant issues surrounding the CPU utilization in SUS 2.0 I was
basically forced to upgrade to SUS 3.0 RC this past week.
All in all it went in well and for the most part seems to be working fine
but I am not getting any new updates.
I will approve an update and wait to see if it will install but it never
will. When I investigate the issue I see an message below th...

WSUS in production environment
Hi everybody, thanks for reading.
I have to deploy WSUS in a semiconductors shop. We have approx. 400
computers. +/- 100 are used to control machines in our production
chain, +/- 100 are used by operators and +/- 200 are used by people
outside of the cleanrooms for different tasks, sometimes with our own
programs.
We still don't use Active Directory (which will be installed this
summer), an...

maintenance wsus day
Hi,
I've try to free space database and update wsuscontent folder, running
wsusutils deleteunneeded tool and reset, on master and slave servers.
I've noticed that you have to run this command on each server is not enough
on the master and start synchronization. Is it correct?
It decreases the number of updates, but database size is always the same.
Again, I've noticed in same case,...

How can I clean out the 'detection logic' on the clients?
I have some clients that lock up with 99% CPU while trying to detect for new

them when i try against MU now. The same thing happens.
I really need a way out of this situation.
