Use remote SQL db as part of WSUS SP1 install
While attempting to install WSUS using the SP1 exe, it prompts me for
the database I wish to use... I choose to use a remote SQL database
(providing the servername/instance) but for some reason, it thinks the
database is already created vs creating a new one.
Does anyone know the steps necessary to create a SUSDB database so I
can get past this step in the install?

WSUS 3.0 SP1 KB948014 shows needed even though roll is not install
All of our Windows 2008 Server machines are showing that KB948018 WSUS 3.0
SP1 is needed even though none of these servers have the WSUS roll installed.
When I click "Check for Updates" or run wuauclt /detectnow I am told that
there are no updates available and that everything is up to date.
All other updates that have been approved have installed successfully. This

2 Errors during Upgrade
I have just upgraded my WSUS from version 3.0 to WSUS 3.0 with SP1 by
running WSUSSetup_30SP1_x86.exe on top of existing WSUS 3.0 installation.
The upgrade took approximately 15 minutes during which 2 errors are logged.
They are shown below.
My question is:

WSUS 3.0 Authentifiaction/Setup Problem
Hello,
I currently cannot manage the WSUS on my machine. Each time I try to
connect to the machine, the WSUS management console reports that it
cannot connect and that it might help to check if the SQL-Server is running.
The eventlog shows the following error frequently:

no client computers have ever contacted the server
I followed the instructions from MS to setup clients throug gp and even
manually configured some clients
but none will talk to the wsus 3 sp1 server. I created a dns entry for
the server and used that . If I am missing something, it wasnt in the setup

No clients see wsus3sp1
I have setup wsus3sp1 on 2003 server sp2. Setup GPO to point updates to
local server http://updateserver.ourdomain.local added to group computers,
even forced it on some test machines in gpedit.msc, but no luck. All of my
clients are still looking at microsoft for updates. I need some
troubleshooting tools or tips.

WSUS patches installation status
Hi All:
I'm confused with some of the pc listed in my wsus server. (wsus 3.0 sp1)
From the main view of a computer, I can see it need about 40-50 patches.
(Needed?)
After click on the 'needed' icon, all the patches which are needed by the pc
shows,
most of those patches approval status is 'approved',
but to this pc, the status is 'not installed'.

No Clients Displaying
Read some posts regarding this, and this is what I have done:
WSUS 3.1 on Server 2003 X64 R2 Install using default port 80, etc. New
install of IIS 6.0 just previous.
1) Upon install and when starting and stopping web services, all virtual
directories displaying errors in Application Event Log

Turned off "Feature Packs" but still detecting
I rebooted the server but still the machines want to download the feature
packs. I've been declining them as I see them but I really need this to
stop detecting because I only want critical and security updates and nothing
else. Any ideas?

Showing updates in WSUS
Ok, so I have followed Lawrence's post and installed SP2 on my target
machine. So should it not report that it needs 87 updates? At least that
is what MBSA says it needs. Do you have to have an update approved before a
client will say it needs it? Should not the client just say hey... here are
the updates I need and I can go in and decide to approve them? Can I force
that to update...

Targeting
Hello
Running WSUS 3.0 sp1. I want to use GPO to target two different groups of
servers. Group1 would contain all the DEV/QA servers and Group2 would

hi all .
I have just installed wsus server I am wondering that there is some updates
that comes from 2003 or 2004 if there is an update that released 2007 and it
contains 2003 update then I dont want to store and install 2003 update

Hi All,
I have installed Dec 2008 Security patch in around 1000's of servers. Is
there any way to cross verify the particular Dec 2008 patches are installed
in all servers or to get the report of that patches (Dec 2008) only.

WINHTTP.dll error trying to run client diag

Installed WSUS3 & Now no WSUS

Foolishly i updated WSUS last night from 2 to 3 & now have seriously

WSUS 3.1.6001.65 Sync's but won't download
This WSUS server has worked previously but at some point stopped
downloading updates. We only tend to use it during the longer school
holidays.
It is running on W2K3 std SP2, WSUS is v3.1.6001.65 and as the subject
says it will syncronise and it knows there are updates to download but

WSUS server synchronization failed
Has anyone out there had the same problem as I have? We are running WSUS
3.0 on Windows 2003 server. The synchronization was working back to Nov
3 and stopped working since Nov 4. I checked the sync history and
noticed that the sync also stopped working on Oct 30 with the same
error. And then it started working by itself the next day until Nov 3.

Unable to install WSUS3SP1 under any circumstances because of previous install
Hi,
Saw that my WSUS MMC couldn't connect to one of the downstream WSUS servers
running on Windows 2003 SP2. Checking out the server showed me that the
Update Services service had stopped as had the Internal DB service. I was

Permission problem connecting to WSUS

guide:
If you do not approve an update, its approval status remains Not approved,
and your WSUS server allows clients to evaluate whether or not they need the
