Master Browser issue
Hi!
In the company I work, there are almost 50 Microsoft Servers (NT4, 2003 STD,
2003ENT, 32bits, 64bits, etc).
Every server, we notice in event viewer that there is a "war" to decide who
is the master browser, and I think that they (the servers) never decides
whoi is it.
I think its making lots of broadcast.
What can I do to solve that?

Service software unable to print on Windows 2008 Server 64 bit
We're testing in both Java and C. The programs work fine when started
on the command line. We get our printouts. When we try to run them as
a service then printing fails.
Java can enumerate the printers, but when it tries to print we get "No
Such Printer".
C returns null from its CreateDC call with GetLastError returning 1008
"An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist....

Unattended automatic installation of Server 2008 Enterprise
Has anyone gotten the autounattended install of Server 2008 Enterprise to
work from the training materials?
I'm working on Chapter 2, and diverting into the AIK so that I can create a
custom image to go with the Windows Deployment Services study, and I can't
get the master machine to autoinstall. The AIK is for Vista, but the catalog
file is from the Server2008 DVD, and it validates ...

Small partition, who's fault is it anyway?
I purchased a new Dell PowerEdge 1900 Server with (5) 146 GB drives. They
came in a RAID 5 from the factory, but my IT guy recommended a RAID 1 on the
C drive and mirror to the 2nd drive, and a RAID 5 on the remaining (3) 146GB
drives. To do this he had to change the RAID config and re-install the OS
(Server 2003 Standard edition). Now that I have a couple of programs on the C
drive I...

Setup and the "Virtual" License key
New server w/ Server 2008 Standard from Dell
All I have is the OEM key that is stuck to the machine.
If I am reading http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949748 correctly, it sounds
like I should be able to run Server 2008 strictly to power the VMs. Then I
can run my actual Server 2008 deployment in the VM and gain all the benefits
of that.
However, I never received a virtual key from De...

Server 2003 trial still available?
I can't find the trial for Server 2003 available anywhere on Microsoft's
website and can't even find it in my MSDN subscription downloads. Has it
been removed?
I need to get a copy for a test network I'm setting up with VMWare on my
workstation.
Anybody know where it went?
Thanks!

NTBackup has blank logs
Hi there,
* I hope this is in the right group, otherwise please tell me of a better
group to post this into *
I've got a 2003 x64 Std. Ed. server running Exchange 2007. I've noticed I'm
starting to get "blank" backup logs from NTBackup. I don't see errors in the
Event Logs regarding NTBackup or anything else before, during, or after
backup. I've noticed, what appears to be, comple...

Best way for users to run office computers from offsite?
Hello,
I would like to use my Windows 2003 server for 10 users to access all their

users to be able to log into the company, even from a cyber cafe computer
that has nothing but internet access from which they can see all their
profile information which is stored on the server. Several users will need

C: Drive Cluster Size of 512
Hi,
I just discovered that the C: drive (the primary partition) of our server
has a cluster size of 512 instead of 4k. How much of a performance issue is
this and should I change the cluster size to 4k?
We're running SBS 2003 R2 on a Dell server. We used the Dell server
install CD's to setup the system and never noticed that it had formatted the
C: drive with the 512 cluster size.

Hyper V Question
Hi,
I am beginning to get into this virtual server. After installing the windows
server 2008 Ent which will be the host and then all the other virtual
machines on this host, what is the use of the host? ins't this a waste of
resources? I'd read somewhere that VMWARE host has a small foot print when
compared to a Windows Server installation with hyper v. Am I missing
something?
Thanks...

GPO policies - some get used, some don't
Workstation: Vista SP1 x64 bit
Server: Windows Server 2008 SBS
Problem: not all settings in group policy object for domain get
transferred. I've got a logon text and caching of domain logons.
After looking at the local policy on on the vista workstation, I see
the cached logon value got transferred down but the logon text is
still blank.
Any ideas?
Thanks....
