Windows 2008 virtual cluster?
I'm evaluating Windows Server 2008, and (as usual with new releases) I'm
testing it in a virtual environment, using VMWare ESXi. But I'm stuck with a
problem: since Windows 2008 doesn't support parallel SCSI disks for
clustering anymore, I'm unable to simulate shared storage in virtual
machines, so I can't test failover clustering configurations. I of course
can't use real hardware for t...

Domain Admin can't take ownership of folder
Windows 2003 file server. I have no options to take ownership of a folder on
my system. I can't open or access the folder and the permission tab does not
show. Any method I've tried has resulted with Access Is Denied. I'm at a
loss as this is the first time this has happened to me.
How can I get access to this folder?
p.s. Nobody can access this folder. It is denied to everybody....

This is what I have installed:

I have changed a line in the boot.ini file, and now I cannot boot Windows

but since I cannot get the system to boot, I can't delete the changed file
and can't rename the original. Can anybody help me with this problem?
Thank you

Migration to KMS for 2008 servers
Hello all!
We are just moving from MAK to KMS. The KMS seems to be up and running but
before putting it into production for all Vista and 2008 servers I would like
to make it active.
Meaning I would like to have 5 Windows 2008 servers activated so that the
first end users would not see an error message.
My question is actually: how can I change a previously MAK activated Windows

RIS restore
My ris server (2003 r1) crashed. I had made a backup of the RIS partition
including the SIS store using ntbackup. I setup a new 2003 server with RIS
running and then restored from the backup. When I try to use one of the
riprepped images, it keeps asking for the proper network drivers. The
image worked previously on the old server. I know this must have something
to do with SIS, but...

redirection vs syncing
Does folder redirection put a local copy of the users (documents for
example) files on to the computers? Or just shortcuts to them?
If possible I 'd like to have the files on the user's laptops for quicker
logons but also be able to back them up.
So now I'm sodering if I need to use syncing along side folder redirection?
I found the following on a website. I'm not sure I believe it. Coul...

Need DVD/CD Authoring Program comapatible with Win 2K Server
Would appreciate any recommendation for DVD authoring packages that are
compatible with Windows 2000 Server (Service Pack 4 Advanced Server). It
will be used for simple data disks and must support Dual layer DVDs. Free
or reasonably priced commercial programs are fine.
(I see that the latest Nero and several others don't specify Windows 2000
support anymore.)
Thanks.

Windows 2008 Scheduled Tasks
Man, I just don't know what it is that's so different in 2008 that's giving
me such headaches with scheduled tasks.
Since converting from a Windows 2003 server to 2008 for our file server I've
had numerous problems with scheduled tasks no longer running. I've set them
up as identically as I can tell (given the differences between the two task
scheduler interfaces), running the same scr...

Static IP doesn't stay after reboot
This is an odd problem. W2K3 Server R2 Standard Edition. Two NICs, one
wireless, one wired. The wired one is set to a static IP address of
192.168.1.110. But after a reboot, it will somehow revert to a DHCP assigned
address. This is a real problem as it is setup to be a webserver and needs a
static IP address to receive forwarded packets from the firewall.
