Server 2008 DC FSMO roles
Are there such FSMO roles on a Server 2008 DC? I have successfully added an
additional Server 2008 as a DC into a Windows 2003 domain. My other DC is
running Windows 2003 R2. Is there such a route to transfer FSMO roles to the
new windows 2008 DC?
Thanks

File server search
I am not sure where to post this question but I suspect I will get a few...
different suggestions. We have an AD domain with 2003R2 servers, and many
files stored on server file shares. We would like to use search to look for
words inside documents (mostly MS Word, som MS Excel). Most of the clients
are XP pro. The search from the clients works sporadically. When we say to

Any API to get "reference time" in Hyper-V virtual machine?
Hi,
Due to the clock skew issue in virtualization world
(http://blogs.msdn.com/tvoellm/archive/2008/03/20/hyper-v-clocks-lie.aspx),
the clock value from Win32 API in parent or guest partition may not be the
"correct", from a viewer outside of the physical Hyper-V host (however, the
clock value is "correct" within each VM). I am looking for a way in VM to
read a "reference time" that ...

Drive sharing!
Hi!
I would like for our application (service)
on the server to access a remote drive
(a drive from another server).
However, the map of the drive
letter assigned to the remote drive seems to be
active only while the user is logged in.
Is it possible to permanently map a share which is
functional for all users and not only for the user which
mapped the drive and not only while h...

KB948110 and "this product is not installed"
The KB948110 security update is for MSDE. WUS says I need it, but the
install fails and if I try to do it manually I get "this product is not
installed".
The box is a windows 2003 backup domain controller.
I do not have an MSDE or MS SQL installed.
Do I need it?
If so, how do I install it.
If not, how do I get WUS to stop saying I need it?
Thanks

Hypervisor Virtualization Question
I don't understand my options here...
When preparing a new machine to be a host of a few virtual machines, I
understand that I must first install Windows Server 2008, and then

But backing up a bit... when I'm walking through the install for the
host Windows Server 2008, should this host OS grab all the disk space so

Scripting Windows 2008 System State Backup
We are going to be deploying Windows Server 2008 for our file servers and as
part of our load we do a system state backup with Windows Backup. On 2003 it
was quite easy you can schedule it and away you go. However on 2008 you have
to run it command line now and you cannot schedule that unless you write a
script for it. I’ve been checking out Google and to my surprise there are

Utility to see what shares a security group has access to?
Hi all
W2003 SP2 servers, XP clients.
Is there any way I can find out which shared folders on the network a
particular security group has access to? A Microsoft utility, a third
party utiliity, ANYTHING? We have thousands of shared folders and to
go through them all manually to check what shares the group (e.g.)
FinanceGroup has access to is nigh-on impossible.
Thanks for any advice

Clipboard Copy/Paste Not Working Thru RDC
At a new client's site clipboard copy/paste is not working through RDC on the
Windows 2003 servers I need to use there. I cannot copy data from or paste
data to any of these servers from my XP machine through RDC. This is
extremely inconvenient for the type of work I need to do. It seems as though
this has been disabled through a policy. What can I check to determine what
is wrong?...

Shadow Copy on Windows Server 2003R2

Using Old Server Name for New Server - Get Login Errors...
So I have 2 Servers:
server-old Win2003
svr-new Win2008
I moved the content, shares, etc over from Server-Old to SVR-New. SVR-New
works great.
I turned off Server-Old
Though for some of the legacy shortcuts around I added Static WINS and DNS
entries to point Server-Old to SVR-New's IP.
I can ping Server-Old and the SVR-New's IP, so that works..
Though if I ...
