*.domain.com?
Hello,
is there any way to make anything.domain.com points to the same IP?
I'm working on a website that will work like this....
each user will have his username.domain.com.
Let's say the user bruno registers, then he will have bruno.domain.com, can
I make it dynamic or I'll have to manually create records on my dns server?
thanks!

Orphaned GC-records in DNS
Hi group.
If a Windows 2003 domain controller is NOT a global catalog in its Windows
2003 domain (there are other GC-enabled DCs), is it right that there are
still its SRV- and A-records in:
mydomain.local (SRV-record at port 3268);
gc._msdcs.mydomain.local (A-record);
gc._msdcs.mydomain.local (SRV-record at port 3268);

2003 R2 SP2 problem (DNS?)
Hi,
I've done this countless times on 2000 server but it is not working on
2003 Enterprise Server R2 SP2.
Set up a DC for a new domain, east.test.net, 192.168.1.254 including
DNS server with reverse lookup zone. DCDIAG and NETDIAG don't show any
errors. I can ping east and east.test.net from this DC. Firewall is
off.
Install same software on another server. Firewall off. Join workgro...

AD 2003 DNS issue: multiple hosts, same IP
Hello,
I am not sure if I am not doing good housekeeping or if I am doing
something wrong. Somehow, as computers come and go in the domain,
their DNS records stay (WINS is correct). All machines are configured
to register their connection into DNS and as result I have stuff that
looks like this:
DNS:
CAR-08 Host(A) 10.0.21.85 (wrong)
CAR-10 Host(A) 10.0.21.85 (wrong - mac...

DCDiag Error
I'm troublshooting GPO application problems and suspect that DNS
problems may be at the root of the problem.
I'm running dcdiag on each of 4 DCs. On one I get the following

then
DsBindWithSpnEx() failed with error -2146892976

I get other errors on other DCs. However, can anyone help shed light

DNS for DC using RRAS IP
I have a bigger issue in that I am unable to use "Check Name" when setting up
a new Outlook Exchange account.
When I go onto the Exchange box and ping the DC by name it is coming up as a
RRAS Internal IP and not it's static assigned IP. Would this be a cause of a
lot of issues? Or is this by design being my DC is also the Routing and
Remote Access server?...

DNS Resolution - Stub or Delegation
My bosses have asked me to take a look at getting name resolution
working between the domains in our enterprise. The domains are in
separate locations with VPN's between each location which allow DNS
queries across them. Each domain is completely unaware of the other
domains in DNS.
The structure is :-
example.com DNS servers are two W2K3 DC's and two W2K DC's.

Cannot see web site for OUR server domain
I have never gone into DNS before to modify / edit things.
We have a web site, say, OurWebSite.com. Our server is called
OurWebSite.com, but we do not host the web site. It is hosted by a large
firm offsite.
We can see ALL other web sites but our own OurWebSite.com from our
workstations.
How can I fix this?

Moving AD DNS from a Windows 2000 to 2003 server
Hi there,
I have mograted my domain to 2003 but still have the old DC which is Windows
2000. This is running AD Dns but I want to move it to the new DC that is
Windows 2003. This is also now the PDC/Schema/Infrastrcture master.
What are the pitfalls? Does anyone have a best practise to move DNS from
Windows 2000 to 2003?
Many thanks
Chris

how-to on DNS delegation?
Hello.
We have a network infrastucture. Multiple domain, multiple sites and
multiple dc's in every domain. All DC are GC.
Our main forest, company.local, hosts the DNS for the entire forest as one
big ad-intergrated zone. The domains are
company.local
one.company.local
two.company.local
three.company.local
I'm thinking about delegating the dns zones to their respective domain as ...

when one DNS DC down can't get to internal web sites

server is down for updates/upgrade etc. cannot get to our internal web sites

Forward Lookup Zones - Expired
Hi all,
I've just set up a new domain, with two 2003(R2) Domain Controllers,
both running DNS.
I'm trying to set up secondary DNS zones from another domain, in order
to create a two way trust, and also for a migration.
One domain controller works fine, but the other shows the Zone as
"Status: Expired".
Any Ideas why, and how can I fix this?
Thanks,
Andy

controller running AD, DNS and DHCP, but I'm unable to add a computer

timeout was 2 seconds

who hosts my mx records?
DNS is not my thing, so sorry for the newb question
our MX records are setup properly for our domain, but we will be changing

I'm sending the SPF record to my provider's dns office, and I'd like

inbound/one for outbound).
2) This pubblic IP has an MX record, mail.mydomain.com.

subnets. I understand Active Directory integrated DNS to be more secure but

We have a strange issue, we have a workstation or a server that it is

are supposed to be used to identify domain controller for that domain.
