About a reverse delegation for a subnetted zone
Hi guys,
i need to delegate a reverse zone for my Microsoft Dns Server W2K3 to
another external dns server.
The problem is that i would delegate only a part of this zone (my subnet is
192.168.10.1 - 255.255.255.128) so if a client query for example ip :
192.168.0.10 the resolution is demand to external dns otherwise if a client
query for ip 192.168.0.201 my MS DNS Server resolve...

DNS and Netbios name
Hello,
I have an application that uses the NetBios name to make a connection.
FQDN works fine but not the NetBios name. We manage 2 domains in our
enviorment and the application resides in the other domain. I dont want to
edit host files. and we don't use WINS. Is there a way to set up a host
record that points to a netbios name?
Thanks...

I am having a problem with controlling the DNS registration on a pair of
multi-homed clients. Here is the situation.
In one of our child domains, there are two DCs, both running 2003, but soon
to be upgraded to 2008. Two new member servers have been joined to the
domain, each with 4 NICs. 3 of these NICs are for Extranet clients and
should not be registered in DNS; I have configured ...

Reverse Lookup Zone Cleanup
Hello I am looking to do some DNS cleanup and consolidation. The first step
is to cleanup our reverse lookup zones. We have 100+ separate zones that
were created over the years. I want to consolidate these down to basically
to 2 or 3 reverse zone. So for example I would end up consolidating all the
reverse zones from numerous reverse zones to a one 172.x.x.x reverse zone.
Is there a e...

Problem is specifically the remote VPN workstations XPPro will authenticate

from DHCP and the DNS forwarder Host A record does not update with the new ip
address so ...

DNS not updating after DC replacement
Windows 2003 SE
I have a domain controller, not the master, that died hard (couldn't be
demoted) and had to be rebuilt from scratch.
I did a dcpromo and it did get a copy of AD, but I'm stuck with errors in
DNS that I'm not understanding how to handle.
Event 4510 and 4015.
In everything I'm seeing, the consistent piece is that it can't connect to
the FSMO. That's new to me, but wh...

inadequate and we are seeing multiple host records created for the same IP.
Sure, they will clean out eventually, but we have a lot of duplicates in the

PING companyname.com resolves to DNS servers all over the WAN, not just local
Why not just the local ones?
In UK DNS settings are all 10.44.x.x servers. In U.S all 10.1.x.x
etc..
From a UK workstation, we ping companyname.com it resolves to DNS
servers all over the WAN - some which haven't been active for ages.
If we then ipconfing /flushdns and try again, a different random
server is resolved.
Why is this?
Any help gratefully received!
