DNS config for site DC
I am setting up a new location(B) which will house its own 2003 DC. I setup
the server and ran DCPROMO at the HQ site(A). THe two sites have the same
domain name.I plan to move this DC to site B, which is connected to site A
through a VPN.
How should I configure DNS? should I configure at site A prior to the move?
If so what if any changes should I make when I bring the DC up at siteB?...

Force DNS record update
I just changed IP addresses for several clients in a Windows 2003 SBS domain.
I manually removed the A records from the domain's forward lookup zone.
How do I immediately force the domain/server to locate/identify & create new
A records for the new IP addresses? The host names have not changed....

DNS / DHCP??
I have a SBS2003 Server with 1 additional Windows 2000 Server.
The SBS2003 runs as my DNS and DHCP server, whilst the Windows 2000 Server
runs as an additional DNS server.
Over the past few days clients have started to report that they are unable
to log into the network. When I check on the machines, they have been
assigned the default windows IP address (169.54 or something), hence th...

Remote DC's and DNS
I have two domain controllers (windows 2003) at one location. At another
location, I just stood up another domain controller (windows 2003) in the
same domain. The original two DC's have DNS running with their type being
Active Directory-Integrated and replication is All DNS Servers in the Active
Directory domain.
Should the DNS zone automatically replicate to my new remote DC?...

Need to keep bouncing DNS
Hi;
About once every 2 - 3 weeks we need to bounce the DNS server on our
Windows 2003 server that we host our website on. What happens is it
stops resolving names and so emails from our webserver then get stuck
in the IIS SMTP queue.
A sysadmin at our co-lo facility tells us that about 4 months ago this
started happening for all servers using Windows - which is when it
started happening...

Old PTR names
One year ago we concluded the migration from a Windows NT domain to a Windows
2003 domain.
During the migration there was a two-way trust between the two domains and
the servers appeared in the DNS in the Windows 2003 domain.
These servers are later removed or replaced. New servers in the Windows 2003
domain now can have an IP address that belonged to one of the old servers.
Now the A rec...

401.2 Errors
I have a SBS 2003 server which has just been updated with IE7 (following an
auto update). Our internet connection slowed to a halt and we were advised by
our ISP to remove IE7 as this could be the cause of the problems. Much as I
had my doubts, they insisted. So I removed IE7.
This made no effect, in fact a 5th restart of the ISP's router ultimately
solved the problem. I then reinstalle...

DNS questions. Forwardings and stb zones.
Hello, I have a couple of questions here
The Enterprise has 4 forests. For easiness sake let’s call them
Domain1.local
Domain2.local
Domain3.local
Domain4.local
In addition, domain1.local is an empty root with 3 subdomains
Sub1.domain1.local
Sub2.domain1.local
Sub3.domain1.local
1. Currently the DNS in domain1.local has stub-zones from domain2, domain3
and domain 4. Wouldn’t...
