Will Network Places always be empty with NETBIOS disabled ?
Hello.
We are currently trying to work out how much we can eliminate NETBIOS on our
network. So far we have a couple of applications which make use of 'Browse'
to select remote network shared folders and user's being used to using
Network Places to find remote computers. Can anyone confirm if NETBIOS is
disabled on servers and workstations (we are not using Exchange) whether
there i...

Reverse Lookup Zones best practices for design
Hi, I have a single dns namespace called corp.com that is distributed accross
50+ sites around the country. Is there a preferred way to implement the
reverse lookup zones? We use the private class c network addressing scheme
of 192.168.x.x and we also have 50+ networks as part of our dns namespace.
My questions are:
1. Should our reverse lookup zones be active directory integrated? (...

DNS - WINS Forward Lookup
I never understood this setting.
Why would you setup up a zone with WINS Forward lookup if your DHCP server
is already handing out WINS settings to the client?
Which way should I go? Should I remove the WINS scope options on my DHCP
server and setup a WINS Forward lookup on my DNS server?
I understand if I have Windows NT clients, then you should use the DHCP
Scope Options method, b...

local workstations in cache
I have a strange issue that popped up last week. All of a sudden three (3)
network devices (XP Home, Win 98, and a printer) show up in my dns local
cache pointing to jomax.net dns servers. All three of these devices have the
proper records in my DNS server, and DHCP server. Why would they show up in
the server cache pointing to an external address? I have run virus/antivirus

Confused about host records with DNS
We have somewhat of a unique situtation:
We have a website hosted outside using a specific domain and IP
address.
We are using an outside email host and exchange (internal server) with
a pop3/smpt connector to bring mail in for most users (not all).
And we have a static IP address assigned by our ISP which we use this
address to connect to RWW and OWA via the 66.x.x.x/remote or /exchange

Refresh Interval: 15 minutes

AD Upgrade DNS Problem
Here is what we did in a lab scenario to prepare for our AD upgrade

We configured a Windows 2003 server as a member of the NT4 domain. We
configured the server as a DNS server for the domain. We then
upgraded the PDC to Windows 2003 and pointed it to the DNS server for
DNS. It completed the upgrade and registered all the AD zones in DNS

DNS issue with CNAME/secondary replication in non ADI zones
I've found what appears to be a bug(?):
Primary is a non AD integrated zone. Zone contains a CNAME record that
points to another domain.
Secondary will not load the zone.
Remove the CNAME record from the primary. R&R secondary zone record and the
zone transfer is successful. Readd the CNAME record on the primary and the
change replicates.
Problem exists on both NT2003 and NT2000.
