Is my secondary DNS server confgured?
I started with one Windows Server 2003 domain controller / DNS Server -
Active-directory-integrated. I promoted another DC, stumbled through the
various How-tos to make it a secondary DNS server. While puzzling over what
sort of new zone to create (primary/secondary?) replication set in. Now I
see the zone (the usual and the _msdcs; I've restarted DNS successfully; done
some nslookup ...

Local DNS server issue
I have a strange problem I cannot explain. I have set the NameServers of one
of my customers .com domains. The Whois shows the NS as being set correctly.
The site is available and displays correctly. The problem is that the site
will not display from my customers premises. Their network DNS is not
showing the correct name server. I have cleared the cache in the network DNS
bit it still b...

MX lookup results different depending on client application
When our mail server performs an MX lookup on humphreygasproducts.com
(which is done during the STMP conversation with their sending mail
server when they send us a message) our internal Windows 2003 (5.2
Build 3790.srv03_sp1_gdr.070304-2232) DNS server returns a "non-
existant domain" reply. If I perform an nslookup on the mx record
while at the console on the mail server, it returns the MX...

Resolve DNS outside of the local Domain
Hi,
I have a strange issue. Both the internal domain and our outside webservers
have the same domain name. When i ping a record that doesn't exist in DNS
like bob.mycompany.com i get "ping request could not find host". I'm trying
to config DNS to look outside the local LAN if it can't resolve the name
inside. The goal is to be able to get to our website with
anyname.mycompany.com from o...

setup/configure internal domain dns server?
Hello,
I work at a small business and we have deployed a windows 2003 server
environment with XP clients.
Due to my inexperience I've setup a functional domain but am
experiencing some issues. I'm trying to add in a backup domain
controller but the new server says that dns is configured incorrectly
on the main dns server. (Since we lack the funds to have many servers
the primary domai...

IP address conflict from DHCP
I have a client that says it has an IP address conflict and it lists a
Mac address that it is conflicting with.
There is an entry in the Arp table for the Mac address and IP address.
The Mac address is one of our DCs but it has a static IP address that is
completely different from the address in the Arp table and which is
conflicting.
There are two DCs, each of which is a DHCP and DN...

Hi I have three sites. When I look at DNS under my forward lookup zone I only

the DCs in my default first site in there. Should there be entries for my
other two sites?
Thanks,

nslookup error
I have a 2003 server using active directories. A hardware router does
the dhcp.
Its a small operation with about 50 users but usually about 10 on at
any time. (small school)
On one of the workstations (xp) people have said it takes a long time
to log on to the domain.
I have done some research and many comments seem to say that it is
related to dns issues.

DNS How-to...
Windows Server 2003 EE R2
We just had our IT person quit, leaving me responsible for all things IT.
If I need to add an "A" record to my DNS server which would point to my mail
server, and then add an "MX" record that points to the aforementioned "A"
record, how would I do that? Mail server is 10.1.1.50.
Thanx....

Automate DNS Entries
Hello all. I'm a fairly new Windows admin and I find myself in need of a
script to automate the addition of about 60 address and pointer entries into
Windows DNS. It seems there has to be a tool to do this somewhere, but I'm
not having much luck. Have any of you encountered this before? ...

We recently did an upgrade of our NT 4 domain. We now have two
Windows 2003 DCs each of which is a DNS server. The zones are AD

Everthing works properly. I set up a couple of DCs on a VMware system
to practive disaster recover. I noticed a difference between these
and our domain with respect to DNS.

dcdiag.exe /test:DNS > Delegation is broken for the domain
hi guys! (windows 2003+3 DCs+1domain+DNS Integrated zone)
After every restart, all of my DCs are deadly slow to show up the
domain and allow users to logon. Giving a look at the events, i found
that the DNS service is delaying 22 minutes to get started. That made
me try dcdiag.exe /test:DNS and got the following weird error message:

DHCP option 119
Hello,
DHCP option 119 is the Domain Suffix Search order and using this option
seems to be most elegant versus group policy or reg hack. The following
link provides instructions how one might setup MS DHCP to dish out this
option; however, WinXP clients don't seem to pick it up.

Preparing Network Connections
When I reboot some of my 2003 DC, they get to "Preparing Network Connections"

this normal for DCs?
I have read some articles saying it is a DNS problem however I have run

suggestions would be appreciated....
