DNS settings: Scavenge Stale Records
Hello all.
I need some advice about settings regarding scavenging of stale records.
We have AD intergrated zones (both forward and reverse) that allow secure
dynamic updates. Scavenging has not been enbabled.
Now the zone has many duplicates as a result that machines change IP's so
both IP's and host names are listed several times. This causes a few
headaches for name-resolution.

configuration is set up to always dynamically update DNS A and PTR records,
even for those clients that do not request it. We do this because we have
WinCE thin clients that do not update DNS on their own.

Random Network Disconnects
Hello:
I am having a problem diagnosing a random network disconnect for one of my
Windows 2003 R2 Sp2 servers. It will randomly disconnect itself from the
network and the only way I can seem to get it back up is to restart the box.
Here is a portion of a netdiag with verbose logging turned on. I had to
edit some portions out due to confidentiality.
Gathering IPX configuratio...

Odd behavior for DC records
In tracking down a different problem, I've come across some odd behavior
regarding the DNS records for our Domain Controllers.
A few weeks ago, we added new servers with Win 2003 R2 as domain
controllers. We also run DNS, DHCP and WINS on these servers. Both servers
only have one of their NICs enabled at this point. There were no problems
encountered while migrating the domain or the...

ipconfig /displaydns (name does not exist)
When I run ipconfig /displaydns on my (windows 2003 sp2 server) DC I get all
the expected records, and this extra one:
wpad.wrbenson.local
----------------------------------------
Name does not exist.
I never heard of wpad - afaik, it's never been an object in AD or DNS or
DHCP; is this something I should try and fix? If so, where to start?
TIA,

Hi,
I can't figure out why I can't ping my simple Belkin $50 router (which of

DNS and AD creation question
We have a primary and secondary domain controllers, I want to setup another
Active Dir server to host student accounts but I do not want them to
replicate users into the main domain's AD.
I need to keep all user accounts seperate from the two.
What is the best way to set this up? A child domain within the main domain?
Any assistance would be greatly apprecieated

Cross-forest domain trusts between a 2000 and 2003 domain?
Hello, I'm wondering if this is even possible to create a cross-forest trust
between a Windows Server 2000 domain (domainname1) and a Windows Server 2003
domain (domainname2). I have applications that currently rely on domainname1
for authentication. We are migrating from the 2000 domain (domainname1) to a
brand new server 2003 domain (domainname2). We are going to be migrating

How to create an Alias for an http path
I'm pretty certain that I've done this before but obviously can't remember
how to do it (hey, I'm a windows admin, not a webmaster...).
I've got a request to set up an alias so users can enter a friendly name in
their browser and have the full path loaded. So, if I enter microsoft in my
browser's address field, I'll go straight to

Access external FQDN site internally

subdomain email.domain.com is linked to our static IP address for

for OWA and email.domain.com/Remote for RWW. However, internally, we
can only access OWA and RWW by doing domain.local/Exchange and

Evant ID 140, How do I remove and reinstall RPC on a Windows 2003 R2 SP2 DC?
This error suddenly appeared on one of my DCs (64-bit, Windows 2003
Enterprise R2 SP2) a few days ago. No other DCs show this error. The DC
still servers up requests fro clients, just cannot access the server via
MMC, either on the box or remotely.
The TechNet site is not very helpful, as I have not a clue how to remove and
reinstall RPC, especially when it seems to be working fine.
