Exclusion of content within a directory
We have a directory structure that in many places contains a directory
named "cache", in which some temp content is created.
We use FRS and DFS to replicate all files and folders within the
entire directory structure, with the exlusions of *.tmp & *.bak for
filenames and "cache" as a folder exclusion.
We have reached a point where replication still occurs in some of the
cache folders and...

Server already hosts a namespace with that name
I find myself in what may be a unique scenario.
Our division utilized DFS for our file shares amongst the users. Currently,
the root is hosted on a Windows 2000 Server. A few weeks ago, we had built a
new file server to migrate shares off of the aging systems. One of those
systems is the current namespace server with the DFS Root. I built the file
server with Windows Server 2008 Standar...

Problem after upgrading from IE6 to IE7
Hi!
We have a script that has been running fine for years where we access
a DFS path. When we upgrade a client computer to IE7 the same script
cannot access the DFS path any longer. The script uses runas
credentials to launch Internet Explorer and open the DFS path in a
window to access files which normally a user cannot access.
I've tried fiddling around with the security zones setting...

W2008 DFS Hangs on XP only
Just set up a new W2008 File Server accessed via Domain DFS. At perhaps 4
hour intervals memory spikes to 3Gb of 4Gb available, and many if not all of
our XP clients are hanging. Vista clients seem to be unaffected. A reboot of
the W2008 File Server corrects the problem. Has anyone seen this?
Troubleshooting suggestions?

How to configure DFS to "aggregate" shares?
I have a problem getting DFS configured the way I would like my users
to see folders. My environment is 100% Win2k3 R2. However, AD is
running in Mixed Mode (if it matters) because of an older app we can't
decom yet.
I have three shares:
SERVER01\Data01$
SERVER02\Data02$
SERVER03\Data03$
Each share has its own unique folders and data under it, as shown
below:

User Folders
Hi All,
We are implementing DFS on Server 2K3 R2 accross 3 sites.
Site 1 - SBS 2003 R2 Premium Box + Server 2K3 R2 Box (File, Print + AD)
Site 2 - Server 2K3 R2 Box (File, Print + AD)
Site 3 - Server 2K3 R2 Box (File, Print + AD)
As many of the users move between the sites we would like to move all of the
users' folders to the DFS namespace and have it replicated to all three
sites....

W2k8 DFS, several problems
Hi,
I have two W2k8 servers, both running as DC, replicating some file shares.
The domain is in 2008 mode, the DFS also.
First problem: clients are connecting to \\domain\dfs\share and running
programs from this share. Each time they start a program, there is a
security warning that opening the file from this location may be insecure.
If the clients connect to \\server\share instead, th...

Setting up DFS with Win 2003 DCs and win 2008
Our domain is made up of 2 2003 DCs with a 2003 file server. We have setup a
new 2008 file server and would like to start DFS between the the older 2003
file server and the new 2008 file server.
The DCs and old file server are not 2003 R2 but only 2003.
Will I need at least one DC to be 2003R2 or 2008 for DFS?

Excluded folders still being replicated
I have setup a new DFS link for replication testing called 'DFS' which
has targets on two different servers.
I have set it up so that the folder 'exclude' should be excluded (by
specifying it in the "subfolder filter" field in the Replication tab of
the DFS properties dialog box).
When I then create a folder called 'exclude' on either of the DFS links,
it is immediately created on th...

DFS unavailable during WAN outage, part II
Hello all --
I'm having a similar problem to the one described in a post of 9/24. I have
a dfs operating over two sites with one or more PDC's in each site. When
site B becomes unavailable, users in site A lose all dfs connectivity, even
though they are (or should be) being referred to a server in their own site.
Site B users have normal dfs services during the outage. When we have ...

DFS Client stops seeing shares
I am not sure if this is a DFS issue or not. It may be though.
My client PC is XP SP3 plus all WSUS delivered updates.
I have a W2003 R2 SP2 server "DS1" which has a few shares and is a DFS Root
server, but not a DC.
The client uses "\\domain\root\network admin" to access a share via the link to
"\\DS1\network admin$"
All works fine until I reboot DS1. After that the client can no longer...
