I’m going to set up fail/over clusters (first SQL/File, second Hyper-V) and NLB IIS cluster based on Windows Server 2008. My question is to which network I should disable IPv6: 1. Fail Over cluster HeartBeat 2. Fail Over cluster iSCSI 3. Fail Over cluster public 4. NLB cluster HeartBeat 5. NLB Public Maybe some links with best practices for network configuration for cluster based on ...

NLB cluster and NIC configuration
I’ve started to be confused (almost desperated) about NLB IP cluster configuration. Could you please help me to find answer for my questions? I found the best practice it to use Unicast with Multiple Network Adapters and not quite sure how to configure network adapters. There is a lot of information how to set up NLB cluster and almost nothing how to set up NIC settings. This cluster wi...

Cloning of cluster server to different hardware.
Hi, The current setup are followed. Clustering of 2 server (both are active) - all resources are map to the SAN - Windows Server 2003 R2 64-Bit Now, in the name of DR and money saving solution, the management want the DR hardware to be cheaper and of lower 'power' Instead of using SAN, all resources will be residing on the server RAID storage. I have tried cloned the server(HP...

Heartbeat NIC shows as Failed in Cluster Admin
Hi, I have a 3-node Windows 2003 cluster. On one of the nodes, the Heartbeat NIC shows as Failed in the Cluster Administrator. On the server itself, the NIC works fine, it shows as connected, although I did notice the Status shows 0 receive packets. Also, I can't ping the other Heartbeat NICs from this node and from the other nodes, I can't ping this node's Heartbeat NIC. I've t...

error 1067
I goofed up, hoping there is a quick fix. I had to rename nodes and re-IP a 2003R2 cluster I just built. I stopped the cluster service, renamed and re-IP'ed the nodes, opened clusadmin, then realized I probably should have done things differently...hind sight still works anyway. The quorum drive was reformatted, so there is nothing left of the original cluster except what each node ha...

Can't failover resources on Win2k3 Cluster odd IP Address Conflict
We have a Win2k3 SP1 two node cluster we use as a file server. Two weeks ago we had to reboot a node following the reboot of our core network switches. We have two resources that we balance between the two nodes of the cluster, but after the reboot everything was on Node 1. Noting a performance lag we attempted to move the resource to Node 2, however the IP resource failed citing ther...

NIC configuration for NLB and fail over cluster.
What NIC configuration should I use for IIS NLB and SQL fail over cluster? My target is to avoid single point of failure for all connection including switches. Scenario: 2 servers in NLB clustering (Domain member) 2 servers in SQL and file fail over clustering (both Domain Controllers) Webpage from IIS server will be stored on fail over cluster (I don’t want to use DFSR replication) u...

Multicast Addressing
We have started to deploy Windows 2003 Server 64-Bit Edition multinode clusters to support SQL Server 2005 databases. The Private network for all nodes of all clusters are physically connected to a Cisco switch configured with a VLAN specifically for the cluster traffic. Each multinode cluster has had the Multicast feature disabled following the procedures in: http://support.microsoft....

disk configuration for cluster
What configuration is better and why? MD3000i with 10x450GB HDD I’m going to use RAID 1+0 2x two node clusters (active, passive) connected over iSCSI - First SQL cluster - Second Hyper-V cluster 1x stand alone server as Hyper-V host also connected to SAN As far as I know RAID is faster when you use more disks. So in my opinion the best solution is to create one storage group in RAID 1+0...

Disk Space
Hi everyone, I need to grow up my cluster disks, the cluster has SQL Instance with 1.2TB, and we’ll add more disks and the final result would be 3.2TB. Any advises before doing this? Do I need diskpart after extend the disks? ...

Quorum questions
I have a 2 node A/P Exchange 2007 SCC cluster. All storage (db, logs, quorum) are on a SAN. When I move the cluster to the passive node (node 2) using the move-ClusteredMailboxServer the quorum stays with the active node (node 1) and the CMS moves to node 2. Q1: Using the move-ClusteredMailboxServer cmdlet should the quorum move to the passive node too? Q2: During a true failover sho...
