Media Center and Live Writer Crash at Startup
Hello, for the past couple weeks I've been having a problem with my computer.
I run a Dell 8400 with a P4 at 2.9 GHz, 1 gb RAM, with Media Center XP 2002
and Service Pack 3.
Every time I click the Media Center icon to start it up, I get the following
errors:
ehshell.exe - Common Language Runtime Debugging Services
Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.

Patch Tuesday - FAIL. Why?
I cannot get my main Media Center system to install any patches from the
last Patch Tuesday. It's a pretty vanilla Vista Ultimate Media Center -
besides the base OS, the only thing I've installed is tuner drivers and
Pinnacle Studio.
When I try to install patches (any of the available ones, either as a batch
or singly), the Downloading graph sits at zero percent until I cancel it.
The...

Automatic drive letter assignment
Hi, I'm using XP with external USB drives. One of the drives, when powered
on, does not automatically get assigned a drive letter, but the others do. I
can manually assign it a letter via Disk Managment, but this is a pain. Any
ideas?
Thanks,

"Extended-Range" WiFi?
Just finished testing a PC with USB Wi-Fi as a "player" for
material recorded on another PC and the bandwidth seemed
adequate.
But when I moved the "player" PC to the kitchen - where it would
reside - WiFi signal strength dropped to 1-2 bars - which was not
enough for the box to get a reliable data stream. It was full
scale when the box was in the same room as the server.
Before I pu...

I'm trying to figure out how to find the correct window handle (of an
external application, for instance Firefox and IE) to send WM_VSCROLL

(when sent from an application that implements this correctly) but I
don't see anything special about the particular window that this
application chosen to send the message to.

seems her desktop has disappeared. All she has is the start bar at the bottom

the rest of the computer is functioning ok. I walked her through right

not. Is there a way of moving them without removing? Is there a way of

Win XP Media Center not installing-SP2 disk requested
I just assembled a new computer (all new components) and when I try to
install XP MC it asks for the service pack 2 disk. My Windows didn't come
with this - it came with 2005 updates, but no service pack 2. I downloaded
the XP service pack 2 file from the MS website, extracted it, burned it to
cd, then put it in, but it is still not working. Specifically, it asks for
files such as nt5...

MCE 2005 HD Playback Issue
I have just reinstalled MCE on my main HTPC. I had been experimenting with
other PVR software that will allow recording digital QAM cable broadcast.
I learned that Silicondust HDHomerun would record QAM on XP MCE, so I
reloaded MCE to give it another try. So this is a fresh installation with
Rollup2, the update to Rollup2 and XP SP3 with all subsequent patches.
Everything appears to ...

Disabling Live TV Buffer in Vista Media Center
Hi,
I have been googling around for a way to disable the live tv buffer
that media center has, which seems to be about 2 seconds as far as I
can tell.
I have Dish Network and my reciever comes with a built in dvr so I do
not need this feature.
Currently my TV Tuner card (PCI) is getting input from a RF modulator
(via coax). The RF modulator has my Nintendo Wii (via rca cables) and

Programming Remote To Operate MS Wireless Keyboard?
Somebody, somewhere mentioned what I though was a pretty slick
idea for watching a TV that's connected to and, at the moment,
being fed by a PC: Get a programmable remote and somehow teach
it to sent the desired keyboard commands through an existing MS
wireless mouse/keyboard puck.
Anybody done this successfully?
Make/model of the programmable remote?

Desktop has a tv tuner & works fine. From the laptop, I can browse

double-click a file & MC starts up & plays the file just fine.
But when I go to the library setup in MC on the laptop, and choose

Windows Media Center has stopped working
Media Center works fine until I use the Guide, then it stops working,

using the Guide. WMC does work, but the moment I start looking at the
Guide, then it crashes. I've tried recommendations...
